Just downloaded NZ maps (12.5MB) via Maploader. Looking good so far for AKL at least. Nice one Nokia - let's hope its been worth the wait...

Likewise - I see there is a more recent version of the map loader though, so I'm updating to that and to Nokia Maps 2.0 to see whether that makes the difference...

Yep, thats the thing - I think its more related to the Maploader than the Nokia Maps version though...

Nice speedy download - will update with feedback on the maps shortly.

EDIT: Auckland streets look pretty good, although navigation is not on offer from the looks of it and POI are limited. A pretty big improvement, but still not yet a touch on Garmin. Will await further updates, hoping this isn't the one that Aloha was talking about later in the month...

Great!

12.5meg is a lot less than the half gig i DL a few weeks ago for MGMaps (but will no doubt bridge the gap as POI data expands)... onwards and upwards nokia!

Where are you based testing123? If you're out of Auckland, how are the new maps for you?

I'm correct that theres no voice guidance right? Or has someone got it to work?

I'm based in central Auckland but grew up and spend a lot of time in hamilton so will give that a good once-over after work & when i'm down there this weekend.

Be aware that the likes of voice guided turn by turn navigation and city guides will be an added cost.

Having a look on Nokia Europe it doesn't look too bad, I like that you don't have to buy a one year subscription!

Of course I'm well aware of that, but you can't actually select NZ in the regions for downloading navigation as far as I can tell....

I would expect when Maps 2.0 is out of Beta this would probably happen. Seems logical at least.

is it common for the position indicator to jump around when in the CBD? when i got off the bus this morning and was walking High St the indicator would jump to Queen St or  Courthouse Lane for 10 seconds at a time.

is this just interference from buildings? i tried walking in areas without awnings as much as possible but evidently cant walk all the way down High St in the middle of the road...

no problems outside of that yet though.

I think its related to the quality of the maps, if NZ's were up to snuff we'd get Voice Navigation on the Beta I think.

I would think thats related to the interference from the buildings, if you went into the GPS data app you'd probably see your position accuracy jumping around between 10 and 40m or so.

Bugger!
I just reflashed my phone to get rid off the Maps 2.0 Beta as I am in OZ and using the navigation service, which I purchased earlier.
Hopefully this is just a beginning and full NZ maps will be available when 2.0 will lose its Beta status in few weeks.

Unfortunately the new NZ maps seems to be available only for 2.0 Beta. I downloaded the latest Map Loader, but I can't see the expanded maps with the old Maps software, only if I use the full package: 2.0 Beta and the newest Map Loader.

I is a kollege stoodent. Bee nice.
