I have a 20% discount on any Nokia mobile, so if I was to use that with a N95...$480!

I got the 20% discount through the Wheel of Fortune TV game, I txt in the correct answer...but I am not going to use it.

Ok, Be quite careful of the quality control of these devices, My first one from 2007 was a stellar phone and was Made in Finland, I now have had two from Vodafone "Made in China" and both have failed.

First, crooked made manu pad, really stiff keypad, large patch of blue pixels on camera, flashing picel cluster on display.
Second, Great solid keypad, loose slider, bad background hiss in the audio-out, stuffed camera - bottom half of images are horribly out of focus and device locks up even after full wipe when video accel is interrogated (capure or playback)and software reflash. hmmmmmm.

Maybe I might stick with the Samsung ACE/i325 with GSM mode.

Today I went into a Vodafone store and looked at their N95. I am surprised it isn't on Vodafone firmware? Because I could actually change the Vodafone theme to something else and all the nasty red menu bars are gone, leaving only the Vodafone Live icon under Applications.

Or is this still based on Vodafone firmware? Confused!!

Yes that is the Vodafone firmware, You can change all the shortcuts, change the "live" right softkey, change your theme, use SIP etc.

The startup/shutdown graphics are still Vodanised and there are still a lot of annoying "online services" links and the icons (which you can shove into another nested folder anyway to get them out of your face though I think a lot of the links are Nokia's)

Shame for the hardware glitches, I was really liking the phone again. I'm considering now awaiting the arrival of the new T'com network and getting the N95-3 and rehousing it with the N95-1 body (lens shutter, lighter battery, slimmer etc)

Loving my new N95 a lot more now that I have had it for a week. Updated to the latest Vodafone firmware and it seems to run and do everything I want it to do. Glad I managed to get it at $499 from The Warehouse. Got a really nice crystal case off Trade Me for $5.99. I'm amazed how snuggly it fits the phone and how good it looks.

Regarding the "Made in Finland" thing, I don't believe they are any better in truth (this is an issue that has been done to death in forums elsewhere). Over a much larger sample size the anecdotal beliefs that MIF handsets are better than MIC handsets appears to be disproved, which of course is, in a nutshell, the problem with anecdotal evidence.

Ideally make them open the box and let you try the slider/keys etc, as the build quality is quite variable for all N-Series phones whether MIF or MIC.

Let me just say it's amazing how the N95, compared to the devices available today, is still rated so highly in terms of functionality and ease of use after nearly two years on the market.

Would the N97 be the next big thing? Well, gotta wait and see.

I have just been told, there was a bit of an issue with some of the Chinese factories Nokia were using being inconsistent, Nokia returned manufacture of phone to Korea until the quality issues were sorted out, Subsequent handsets like the N95 8GB were returned to Korean manufacture for example.

I tried this one in the store, of course it looked fine and worked fine until I tried the headphones and viewed the pictures from the previous night's party and realized I'd have been better taking them with an old VGA cameraphone, ugh..

I'd really like to make a handset out of the 3 I have had, the current one's great keypad and flawless screen, the 2007 one's great camera and the second's main board which did not crash whenever the PowerVR was activated or have the hissing from the headphones. Hmmm, it's not hard swapping the front panel containing LCD and menu buttons then swapping the keymat across, I could live with the bad pixels for the clarity otherwise in the second camera.

No, they were selling it for $499, other places $599. Now that the deal is over, everyone is retailing it at $599.

Took the N95 back and got a refund, big thumbs down to Nokia care centre for appaling service.

Stellar service from Dick Smith Electronics with regards to returning it
