Well let's just say if you get the wrong person the last thing you would want is to spend money in that store. They don't seem to care much if they make a sale or not.

Can someone ask Phones Direct why they're $300+ higher than Zillion? I would expect that NZ outlets retailing the N97 wouldn't differentiate by more than $100 between them. The Trademe buy now seems overpriced also.

Well...the Zillion website is an auction site like Trademe, so while they advertise that price, does not mean you will get it for that price...although, they are offering a 'buy now' so I guess ya should...

Also being an auction site, I think warranty and returns laws are different...

Personally, I would much raher buy from a outfit with a phyisical address/store, rather than a trader on an auction site...

Hmmmm....I also read there in the terms on coolmobile...

What kind of warranty do you offer?

Normally, parallel imported materials do not carry a warranty of any kind. but in our store, you receive a standard 3 months warranty on every item you purchase from our own repair shop. There also is an option of extended warranty.

There is also a mobile store next to STA Travel and Smith & Cougheys. I should go and check it out.

Hey if anyone is interested, I can get my friends to bring over a few N97s from Asia, specifically Taiwan.

It is selling for around no more than $1300 (at today's currency rates).

Although it will have Taiwanese characters as well as English on the keyboard. Runs in English fine.

My friends are due back early July.

Taiwanese characters?
Nah I will pass that up thanks.

And that poses a good question...
The N97 available for sale on Zillion, is supposevly imported for Nokia in Hong Kong...does that mean it will possibly have characters on it as well?

Yes, more than likely.

That is a risk you run with any import.

I insisted my first E71 not have them, phonesdirect still delivered me one with the squiggles. He did refund though.

Just New Zealand sites:

Expert Infotech $1580
Zillion $1350
Coolmobile $1499
Trademe $1579 (was $1699 in last post)
Phones Direct $1570

There appears to be a $1500-mark pattern emerging here...

I wouldn't buy from Expert Infotech - my friend and others have been burnt by their lack of service after they get your money

Zillion & TradeMe - risky, no warranty.

Coolmobile - mentioned them before; would avoid giving them my money due to their apparent lack of interest in service.

Phones Direct - viable option, and the only option really from the list.

I am getting my N97 by the end of this week in black for $1260 from Taiwan. Excellent!

Taiwan...so its gona have Taiwanese characters on it then yeah?

I have asked the guy in the Trademe auction some questions...hes answered everyones questions but mine...ominous sign.

Others asked stupid questions like 'will you swap it for my iphone'....I mean...really!

I've asked where has he imported it from, and does it have Asian characters on it...no answer.
Hmmmmm.......

Yes you would.

Telstra use 850mhz UMTS (3G)

All the other networks use 2100mhz for 3G, and the NAM version of the Nokia N97 includes 850mhz and 2100mhz UMTS

Info found here

God there are some morons on Trademe...

The majority of the N97's being advertised on Trademe, are being described incorrectly....most of them have got the network frequencys wrong, including 850 and 900mhz WCDMA......ugh!

If people are going to sell a brand new item for a quick buck, the least they could do is advertise it correctly, know a litle about what they are selling!
