Go with the current generation unless you're prepared to wait until the end of the year or more. The 920 is already available for only $800. That price is probably going to carry it on through the year. The 928 is a 920 with a xenon flash made for Verizon. You might eventually be able to get one through somewhere like Expansys, but don't count on that. The 920 is the top model for the rest of the world.

The best fix for issues people are having is to flash it with the latest firmware and load the latest Nokia system apps. Resolved all issues on the two 920s in my family (one still had odd resets and the other bricked itself during a hard reset). Everything including Skype runs perfectly now.

I don't see a lot of point in the 820 with the 720 just around the corner... depends on the pricing.
The 620 is also attractive and cheap too.

Expansys has the best prices right now in NZ for Nokia Lumia handsets. Waiting for 720 to drop by another $20 then I don't have to pay the GST/Customs.

Mischief: Hmmmm....now I'm in a real quandary.....have been seriously toying with either the Nokia 920 or the 820...with a lean towards the 820...but....

Should I go now, or wait for the next generation, after which hopefully some of the teething problems discussed in these forums have been resolved??

Now I see the Nokia 'Catwalk' has been leaked for release in June/July this year. Believed to officially be named the Nokia 928 (no resemblance to the Porsche though )

I would only go the 820 if you want the SD card/expandable storage option. If the 32GB is enough for you then get the 920. The 720 just doesn't have the specs of the other 2 although is much cheaper.

Lumia 720 is miles ahead of the 820 in terms of camera performance, price, design, weight, display and battery.

Battery, yes its better. Weight, yes its lighter. Price, yes its cheaper but to be expected as it is lower spec'ed. But the display, dimensions and camera? I don't think so, not the main camera, the front facing camera is better on the 720 though. The display is LCD not AMOLED. The 720 only has 512mb of ram and a 1ghz dual core cpu. Also it does not have 4G.
Just be aware these lower spec'ed phones also have software limitations imposed on them as they are not powerful enough to run everything the higher end phones can run.

There is only like 5 or 7 apps out of 150,000 apps out there in Windows Phone store that need 1GB RAM to run. 1GHz dual core CPU on the mid range and low end devices is plenty of power for WP8 along with 512MB RAM.

Megapixels do not mean anything. 820 has 8MP camera with f2.2 apperture at back but Lumia 720 has a f1.9 apperture lens on that 6.7MP module which is great for low light photography. The display on Lumia 720 is IPS LCD which is very sharp, vibrant colours and better viewing angles.

The only thing that 820 has going for it is CPU, RAM and 4G. I don't see the CPU and RAM being a limitation on 720 at all and 4G will not be mainstream in NZ for the next 2 to 3 years atleast.

Edit - Lumia 720 also has a better GPU in comparison to the 820 and 920 for that matter.

Oh my god......with the release of the 720 this has further increased not only my options, but my indecision. Sad - I know.

However, over the weekend I went out and had a tutu with the 920 (at Telecom) - the 820 (at Vodafone) - the HTC 8S (Vodafone, Noel Leeming & DSE) and the 620 at Noel Leemings.

Couldn't find an HTC 8X to try out.

To be totally honest, I love the 920 - but - I found the sharp corners uncomfortable when using it one handed. The display is fantastic - as is the camera. But for general phone use, emails, text messaging & such-like, I think I would get rather annoyed with the corners. I'm not a power user, or going to be using it for work related stuff - my company provide a flash-harry iPhone 5 for that task.

The 820 was great to hold and use. Felt nice, smooth operation and comfortable overall.

Was ho-hum with the HTC - although the colour was nice & liked the HTC Theme colour. But not overly impressed by the stats and reviews in comparison to the Lumia range.

Loved the feel of the 620. I guess this is because it is essentially the same dimensions as my current crappy Huawei X5. More phones need to be in this fantastic Green colour - love it to bits! However, when have a play through the settings, I changed the theme colours, and nothing changed on the screen, except if I changed from light to dark. Colours didn't change at all - which was a little disappointing - and this was on two different handsets. I would hope that this was just a 'glitch' and not the standard fare for the 620. Good price at NL's - $349 including a bonus cover (although limited to choice of cyan or yellow)

Now the 720 is available.....still in undecided mode completely.....but now leaning towards the 720 in white (wish they were available in green) via Expansys at $382.75.

Hmmmmmmm.........more procrastinating

Get the Nokia Lumia 720. I am waiting for the price to drop by another $20 on expansys. That way the toal price incl courier will be less than NZ$390. You then don't have to pay GST/Customs or the $38 MAF inspection fees when it lands here from Hong Kong.

The only thing negative I can say about the 720 is that it ships with Here Drive instead of Here Drive+. This means that you only get offline voice guided navigation for NZ and Australia only and not the 100+ countries. Not a biggie for me as I really only travel either in NZ or Australia sometime.

I guess that as the average length of ownership before changing/upgrading/replacing phones is only 18 months, this will give the telcos time to get 4G sorted for mainstream use everywhere. So this (4G) at this time isn't a huge point for me (I guess

I havnt been here for awhile ..this thread... has anyone released a voip app that will work with ..whats the slingshot service called? anyway that one and also nokia suite abilty to txt from pc through phone.

amazingly those two features would be what could drive me from 920 back to samsung but i doubt it

I have been to two phone shops so far, on carrier affiliated and one not (I'm not going to name names), and both times the sales staff advised me to avoid Win Phone 8 in favour of Android or iOS.

Their reasons were that Win Phone is not very customisable and that it is 'hard to use' but basically it was a case of 'I don't like it, but if you want to buy a Windows Phone that is up to you'.

I find this really strange as by all accounts, here and some well respected reviews, the recent Nokia phones are the best you can buy at the $400 to $600 price bracket.

Is this just a case of Windows not marketing right? or does anybody think there is something else going on here?
