nzmate: You can try Omni Tech to flash your phone

Do you know what they would flash it to? Voda NZ ROM?

Nop, MEA ROM

I also called the Nokia Care Centre and advised them of my problem and told them I am willing to send you the files and also pay for the service and they refused (The call centre was not in NZ so I think there is an issue here)

I think the call centre is in Philippines (that was my guess from the accent), however, the in person experience is worse. I particularly disliked the ticket vending machine like the ones used in the 1960s.

So very disappointing for hardware I have always had a fondness for. Similar to Palm, which had some great hardware at the time but horrible support, and we all know where they are now.

lyonrouge: Sure, if you work in CBD I can do easy.

@lyonrouge: I hope you do not mind me asking but did nztechfreak ever get in touch with you to try out his 64GB SDXC card in your N8?

No.

OK well further researches since I asked threw up the following thread: http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Eseries-and-Communicators/64GB-SD-Flash-on-N8/td-p/864801
which reports that a 64GB card works in the N8 at least read only.  I would still love to hear from anyone who can definitively state the 64GB card works read and write.

Hi LyonRouge,
I've been in touch with our manager at the Care Centre in Auckland. We can reload FW that for you. Standard charge for this would be $52

Excellent effort, appreciated (go the onshore team).

Is there someone I can ask for by name. I'll bring in the car on Thursday and drive down at lunch. Is this a "while you wait" action?

Yay, the N8 lives again! Somehow it know my existing OVI account (IMSI, IMEI or MSISDN linked?). Once on it advised me of an update (social), which I?ve installed.

Question 1 : Nokia Suite cannot find the maps, tells me to go to the device, which I have done and selected the ?Use Nokia Suite? option and connected to Laptop, but laptop continues to say I need to open the Maps on the phone?

Question 2 : Does the remote wipe have the same effect as a three finger salute or is it is less destructive, i.e. will leave all components of the firmware in place?

Yes, a big thanks for going the extra for me. Although the N8 software has been "challenging" your efforts have been a shining example of how it is the people that make the difference, you're a star!

Can you remind me what the process is to have my previous application purchases reapplied?

If there is a software suggestion box, having the online application purchasing system integrated into Nokia Suite, with the purchased applications visible when signed it would be nice.

Currently the only way to get your previously purchased applications is via the Store on your handset, obviously I'd suggest using wifi if the apps are numerous. You should see your purchased apps under Options > Account within the Store application

Ah, thanks. I only have three apps, Swype, Big Screen and Joiku Spot, it's the latter that's missing. I checked online to confirm that it's on my purchases list, but it does not come up on Nokia Store (I upgraded from OVI Store)?
