Do Garmin use their own hardware, or do they have something that runs on Symbian?

I don't object to paying for a good quality app, but I don't want another piece of hardware to look after so something that runs on my N82 is a bottom line for me.

How come for NZ we have to pay for the voice activation to happen when in other countries everything comes free?

Garmin XT is just an SD card that plugs into a Nokia N95 (didn't see the N82 listed as compatible) and it uses it's own application and data with the built-in GPS. I would assume that it works with the N82 too, perhaps Garmin just haven't updated the list of supported phones.

Sells for $99 (USD)  which I thought was expensive before I knew how much Nokia are charging for their GPS app. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=11413

You mean the navigation? You pay for it in every country. I paid for it in Europe and in Australia too. Doesn't come free.

Hey folks,

Couple of quickies...

Is there any secret to being able to search for addresses on the phone? I couldnt...

One trick I have discovered is related to which CITY you enter. Big cities like AUckland consiste of a large metropolitan area (ie. Auckland Region), and a bunch of different cities. ie. In Auckland, you have Auckland City, Manukau City, North Shore City, Franklin City, and Waitakere City. If you go looking for Hurstmere road in Takapuna, you'd best be looking in North Shore (City), not in Auckland.

Hope that makes sense.

...every time you start the program it goes online and check your licence online and then it will enable the navigation. If you have no online connection (for example out of coverage) the navigation function will not work. ???

This aint the case for me.  I went online (via my wireless LAN) after I purchased the subscribtion, but haven't been online since.  I hav emy phone set to ask, and I say 'no' every time I load the Maps App, and navigation works fine!  I've just spent the week driving an guest from the states around, and subtley used the nav feature a few times to get around the place.  (Subtley = bluetooth ear peice in right ear).

Upon loading MapLoader 1.3.5, a message informed me that new map data was available... and my frustration finally turned to relief as I saw the new 12.5MB maps, and downloaded / installed etc.

Well, I followed the link to v1.3.5 you provided and installed it. Still, I can only get the crappy 6,4 MB NZ map version.. ??Could

anybody upload the praised 12,5 MBversion !? or give me advise ?

You need version 1.3.8 to get the new map data

You also need Nokia Maps v2.0 on your phone. It only shows up when it's the new version.

Works prefectly on my N82 - should work for any 3rd edition phone with GPS receivers.

You can get it for around $80US on Ebay, and from time to time catch it on sale at places like Expansys for as little as $60US (its been awhile since I've seen it that cheap).

I have the latest Nokia Maps 2.0 on my N95.
I just downloaded the latest 1.3.12 Map Loader and when I start the program it says:
The map data on your device is not compatible with the map data available through Nokia Map Loader

And then I cant see the maps only the voices...

What the ...?
