Abo:
kiwifrenzy: Anyone still having problems with 8.1 Update 1 not installing? Everyday it redownloads, prepares to install them fails with the same error.

Sigh.

It's bad enough having to wait for Cyan, but this is frustrating after how easy it was to go to 8.1.

I have a 820 on Vodafone.

Yep still got this issue on my 920.

MS is aware of it and it is a storage problem (system not user).

I don't really understand Microsoft's logic on this deployment.
They have released 8.1 update 1 to 'developers' before 8.1 is even released properly. Kinda silly to be previewing an OS build that's 2 ahead of the current build for 90% of users. (which means it's officially about a year away).

Still a chronic issue with the speed of getting updates out cyan + 8.1 - it's been about a month since they have been officially released and not even any time frame for delivery for most of the phones.  Based on how slow the other ones have been probably another month away at the minimum.

I don't get how it can take over a month for the carrier to add their bloat to the image.

And saying it's for 'testing' on their network isn't a valid excuse now with the Developer Preview so widely used (testing for cyan changes could be valid but not the 8.1 update)

8.1 is finished, a few months ago now. It's now up to the operators to approve the update so the handsets get it. In the case of Nokia devices, 8.1 is bundled the new handset firmware called Cyan, so customers just get 1 integrated update.

NZ devices are mostly getting it now.

8.1 Update will be released well before a year. 8.1 Update is already done while we work on Update "2"

Expect to see the frequency of updates pick up from.here on out.

Nathan do you have any indication of when 8.1 or 8.1 Update 1 will roll out for HTC 8X? Also does it depend on what mobile network you are on, where the phone was purchased (Vodafone vs Parallel import) or both?

It depends on the phone model and where it came from originally (a Lumia 1020 bought from Telecom will get the release depending on the Telecom schedule, even if you have a Vodafone SIM).

I've just changed from 2Degrees back to Telecom. Can't send MMS, and many TXT's don't even work either.

My Lumia 1520 is a parallel import, so has a HK ROM. Awesome, 'cos I now have 8.1 & Cyan. But there's some problems on Spark...

According to the Spark website, you use SysAppPusher and put Access Point into Settings. OK, easy, I have SysApppusher, done - but... Access Point does not work on 8.1 ...
"These settins are only available for earlier versions of Windows Phone, and won't work with this operating system".

So...
1. How do I get rid of (uninstall) Access Point from Settings? (It's not a biggie, I spose, it can sit there and do nothing).

but importantly...
2. How do I get MMS working? what are the correct settings in...
a) Settings, Mobile + SIM, SIM Settings?

Here's what I have...
PS: just found out the new Screenshot combo for 8.1 is now Power and Vol Up buttons! :)

Missing at the top of this pic is APN line, which I've set to 'internet', just like pic 2.

Cheers anyone. :)

PS: Mauricio, the posting time is wrong - server?  You do the maths but those pics would be about five minutes earlier than the post time. (It's 6:47 (1847) as I post this).

I like the new swipe keyboard in 8.1, but feel disappointed that the People Hub has lost its major feature of browsing your networks from the one app.  Now I am taken off to FB to read comments, where it was so quick on WP8 remaining in the People app

Are there any downsides to setting region/language to US English to use Cortana? Does it change or prevent the app store or XBox Music operation for example?

It prevents you purchasing apps from the store because it needs a US credit card. Free apps are fine, and updates still work.
I don't know about music, I use it to play music saved on the phone with no problems.

it changes the app store in that you see US apps instead of NZ apps.  The Subway app is one example, but you can switch to NZ region and install it, then switch back to US and use it.

For Xbox music, you need to switch your xbox live account from the NZ to US.  When you do this, you will lose any monthly fee you paid for Xbox music and then will need to re-subscribe in the US region.  More on that here: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/my-account/manage-account/change-region

Thanks all for the answers. I'm not keen on switching my Live account to the US region so it seems the best approach is to use the US region on the phone to access Cortana and switch/reboot to the NZ region to install apps and use Xbox Music. Maybe I don't need Cortana that bad haha :)

The voice turn by turn now plays via bluetooth over the car radio with the latest update.  It's taken a while to a get a basic function to work as it should but at least it's working now. smile
