In my whole movie collection...I only have 1 movie that is in Real Player format...though I would give that a go...

But no...aint that a dag...the N97 has Real Player insalled by default, but will not play one of its encoded movies...hmmm...

The only format videos I have that work are .3gp that I recorded on my Samsung...dag!

Been trying many 3rd party programs to get avi's going...still researching, still looking...no luck yet.

Also be nice if I could find a Twiter widget...surprised they are not available in abundance...
The Facebook widget is fanastic, so simple, so usefull, actually makes using Facebook enjoyable.

I have still yet to sync properly...oh wow...look at that...it just worked!
I previously was having database connection issues...but it seems that is now resolved. cool.
Ovi confirms the sync, all good.

Still working on:
- Cut & paste, and saving files
- Playing Divx/Avi format videos
- N-Gage compatiablity
- Twitter widget would be nice

jjnz1: I think my N97 (and maybe Bartenders) is from asia. I know for a fact that nokia were not allowed/ or didnt want to release further firmware updates for the Asian N81. The N81 I have, had to have its product code changed to get the update.

Hopefully those same practices are not at play again here!!!

I hope your wrong...but just to be sure, I will find out.

Expert Infotech assured me they sourced this from Nokia Europe...which country I am not sure or do not remember...

But that said, I will phone Nokia, quote the device serial, and hopefully get a history of where exactly it came from.

Not that I am overly concerned just yet...I'm not.

I'm loving my N97!

There are many bugs...but nothing critical...
The screen not lighting up every now and again is an annoying one though.

Dam, I just saw the pricing for the new Iphone 3GS and Vodafone are going to be doing the 32gb version for $1369.00
I thought in other countries the Iphone was more than the Nokia N97?
Still can not get my head around the Vodafone trying to sell the N97 for $1700 !!

I was told by a First Mobile rep today, that the N97 is available right now, but only on request...and will retail for $1799!

On a side note...I went into Vodafone in Queensgate Lower Hutt today, to enquire about going On-Account, with the $29.95mo Starter 600 plan, and also including the $69.95mo 3GB broadband plan, all using my current Sim and current phone number....

Well...

The lady was the worst rep I have ever dealt with...she knew nothing of her products and services, and kept telling me:
- I could not have the Starter 600 plan, and the Broadband 3G on the same Sim
- I had no choice but to use 2 Sims, one for the Starter, and one for the Broadband
- That the currently advertised '6 months internet free' special/promotion, which offered 1GB free until 2010, or $50 off the 3GB plan...did NOT include mobile data...only fixed line
- That I was not entitled to the $300 device subsidy...that only came with the 3GB broadband data plan...even though thats what I wanted!
- That what I wanted was a data add-on, which did not qualify for the special/promotion discount, and did not get the device discount either

All this, even when I am showing her the Vodafone website, stating the special includes fixed line AND mobile plans...and that you can get the 3GB plan on a plan...in fact...a plan is required to have Data!

I politley asked her to call whoever she needed to call to ask, but she just said, no, its not available, I am wrong, and would not make any phone calls.

That said...I gave up, and told her I will go somewhere else where the Rep knows their products and services...

I went across the road to First Mobile...explained the same thing, and she knew immediately what I wanted, knew it is possible/available, and is now making enquiries to get it all setup for me...

Shame Vodafone...shame.
Thumbs up First Mobile.

Bartender, So is the first mobile rep giving you the $300 device sub as a credit on your account, and 6 months free broadband?

That would be good eh...but not quite...close though...

- Broadband subsidised until 2010 (1GB a month free or a $50 discount of the 3GB plan)
- $300 'device subsidy' (free Vodem/data card)

As I don't need a discount on another mobile, nor need or want a datacard or Vodem as I will be using this broadband on my N97...I will just accept a Vodem/data card as I am entitled to, and will sell it.

To be entitled to this, I must sign up for the 24 month term 3GB broadband plan (which requires me to be On-Account as well, hence also adding the Starter 600 plan)

Yes I will want to make my mobile broadband available to use on my HTPC as well, as I will be disconnecting my wired internet once all up and running.

Have yet to settle on a program though...joikuspot keeps coming up with the error 'Unable to start Joikuspot'...so have yet to be able to try its functionality/test it.

As for watching Avi's...SmartMovie works....but is ugly....but is progress...ugly progress.

I also managed to download Shazam ID...a great ap that can listen to a song, then tell you its name, artist details etc....(if you dont know it and want to know)
On the official website, it staes it is only avail in Europe, but I found it elsewhere...compatiable v5.

Awesome

I read that VLC Player is out (or coming) for S60v5. This should make a few people smile.

I see phonesdirect have them for sale for $1376. Has anyone here bought one from them. I live in Hamilton and I think I read they are in Cambridge. I would like to collect if they allow.

Also, I am on XT network now and love TWorld access for account information. A friend also on XT with iphone cant access Tworld, I think because there is no wap avail on iphone. Does the N97 support wap?

yes N97 does allow wap, but there may be another underlining issue with your friends Tworld access...

Telecom and Vodafone can block access to 'Special' services due to the fact the phone is not 'telecom authorised' (bought from telecom nz)

My N82 is not allowed to access WAP Vodafone live as it is an import. Rep said not available.

Why would anyone use Vodafone live or Tworld if you own an N97, just use the net? I have never missed it.
