TranceManNZ:
TheBartender: As for watching Avi's...SmartMovie works....but is ugly....but is progress...ugly progress.

I also managed to download Shazam ID...a great ap that can listen to a song, then tell you its name, artist details etc....(if you dont know it and want to know)
On the official website, it staes it is only avail in Europe, but I found it elsewhere...compatiable v5.

Awesome

I read that VLC Player is out (or coming) for S60v5. This should make a few people smile.

Not that great for the N97 though, you'll still have down-encode everything in order for it to play it back with the low CPU/RAM/lack of graphics acceleration.

Did you try the DivX mobile client? I loaded it onto my N95 but haven't got round to throwing an avi onto my phone to see if it works ...

Best regards,

Hey guys,

How do I set up connectivity on the N97? It is connected to my home wifi and also to the Vodafone internet connection. How do I make sure my home page widgets connect only to my home wifi? Thanks.

OK I have managed to sort out the above.

What I am very happy with is the fact that Nokia have really tidied up their maps application. My n97 came pre-installed with all the maps around the world. Now I am updating it to 3.0 and the download is around 330mb - quite large but then I suppose "the world is your oyster" :)

Performance is fairly good. No firmware updates yet. It hasn't crashed thus far so I am not in a rush.

Just now figuring out where videos, photos etc live in what folder.

Yep I have a few questions:

1) How many new widgets are we expecting to see by the end of this year?
2) N97 uses the mini USB port to charge. Is this going to be the new standard for Nokia?

Thanks.

N97 uses micro usb to charge. This is smaller than mini usb. I also believe that micro usb is going to be the standard for all phones. Yay !!! ! no more having to worry about different charges.

Question: Why the @%&* is the N97 so exspensive here!!! LoL

Mobile phone giants agree on universal charger

Yup, it looks like the mini (oops) Micro USB port is going to be the new standard for Nokia, Samsung, LG Electronics, Sony Ericsson, Apple, Motorola, Research in Motion and NEC, probably all others too.

Note to Admins: the strikethrough is bugged for FF & IE

Opps yes I meant micro not mini.

Well, good to know it is going to be the standard. I hope it isn't the standard for high-end phones only.

freitasm: No questions for Nokia? I am meeting two of their people this Monday morning...

I asked one earlier, ya musta missed it...

- Why does the N97, a mobile designed with multimedia in mind, with 32GB built in, capable of holding many large videos...not support the various video formats, in particular, the most popular, divx/avi?

- When will Nokia provide such support and how?

Without said support, the 32GB is wasted and the multimedia capabilitys of the phone somewhat limited and overhyped, if not, misleading.

I agree with TheBartender.

By the way, do you find loading large files a slow process on your N97?

Hi there,

I have been looking at this thread on and off for the time it has been created. I could of missed the answer to my question, but not sure.

Is there any word yet on wether Vodafone or Telecom (or both) will have this available? If so when?

Cheers.

Vodafone will have it available from the 10th of July apparently. It is already available for ordering via Vodafone's chain of suppliers such as Digital Mobile - it's on their site.

Vodafone's RRP $1799.  Digital Mobile has it for $1599 for a limited time.

Why on earth wouldn't you just buy it from a parallel importer? Much cheaper, and no rubbish VF/Telecom firmware to boot...
