Hi

Got my wife a Lumia 800 running on Telecom.  She is having trouble  sending a PXT - getting a 'cant send message'   response.

This is a bulk standard phone through Telecom NZ -   it should be able to PXT right?  Is there any setup option required for this?  She is not on  data plan and has data turned off, but she should still be able to send a PXT.

- thanks

Go to Marketplace and look under Nokia Apps for Network Settings. Install and run it, restart the phone and send a message from the phone to itself (from Number A to Number A). It should have a MMS show upp in seconds.

If it doesn't work then test the SIM card in another handset to make sure the account has no problems.

Also under 'Messaging' hub, press the 3 dots at the bottom and tap 'settings' and make sure that 'Group text' is turned ON.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I just read up on Group Text. 'Helps keep replies in one thread by using MMS'. Guess it's for Groups that you create under People Hub.

May be data needs to be turned on for MMS?

Data needs to be turned on. And if you are on Prepay you must have some balance for data to connect.

Ok- I did not realise that data must be turned on.

My wifes phone does not have data turned on because she really has no need for it when she is out and and about, and it seems to me that as soon as it is enabled then some apps will consume data my default which we don't really want.

I thought that there was a standard cost for each MMS txt hence it avoided the need for a data plan.

From this then I assume she would be able to PXT when she is running under WIFI?

MMS uses a specific APN, and it's not accessible via WiFi. Each mobile operator will have its own MMS APN, and this is never accessible via WiFi.

MMS data is charged separately from mobile data but it still uses the mobile network.
