So go home last night and my wife said her phone (HTC 7 Trophy) had reset to factory defaults. Apparently it had locked up completely while on charge, so she had to crash it and reboot, then it launched into the setup wizard on first boot....has anyone ever had this happen or know why it could happen???

I'm a little concerned because not long ago I went to sign into the Live ID we use for the phone, and it said we had been locked out because of suspicious activity on the account. I had to go through the customer service option to get back into the account because the only other option was to send an email to an email address we no longer had access to. We use this account for everything, Phone, Xbox, Zune movie rentals, Hotmail, SkyDrive and so-on, so it was a pain in the ass. Needless to say we have a new password, but I just hope these events aren't related (i.e. someone got into the account and did a remote wipe of the phone).

Is there a log of this stuff anywhere that we can access??

Sorry no solution, just a comment you are not alone. Work mate has same phone and has had same issue twice. Just turns phone on and out-of-the-blue it's as if its a brand new phone, right back to factory standard. He is not a big computer user so really does nothing else than use it as a phone and for emails. Does not have any of the services you mentioned.

My guess is its a handset issue and unrelated to your account.

Other than making sure you have the latest software I would guess it's possibly faulty.

Interesting. Wife uses the HTC Trophy on 2degrees with no problems.

Are you using yours on Vodafone? How is your 3G coverage? Are you running the latest firmware version?

We've got lots of those handsets with staff and I don't recall hearing about anything similar with the Trophy but I have seen something similar on another HTC handset.

Some devices with crappy radios would reset on bad 3G coverage when switching between 2G and 3G. Would be good to know the answers to my previous questions...

Wife's phone is also on 2degrees (roaming on Vodafone out here). We're in North Canterbury near the Eyrewell Forest with pretty rubbish reception, have to leave phone in a certain spot for it to have coverage. Interesting you say it could be resetting due to 2G / 3G switch over.

Thought it had latest firmware as I had checked a while ago when I saw the latest update was bringing Internet Sharing, but nothing was available. Since the reset, when I plugged it into Zune for the first time it offered an HTC update, which then enabled internet sharing.

I would rather this be a problem with the handset than the account. The phone has done pretty well though, got it at Windows Phone launch as its been pretty problem free since then.
