Hello Everyone,

I remember that a year or two ago Nokia licensed ActiveSync from Microsoft. Boy was I excited, I would be able to buy a Nokia to sync to my Exchange Server, get my calender, contacts, e-mail etc.

Well, I asked a Nokia rep, and they said they would never use ActiveSync, their solution is their lame software (I forget it's name) but It has to be teathered to a PC to sync.

The whole point of a mobile, is that you are, er, mobile and can sync your data. To have to carry a laptop, and internet connection to sync my phone is stupid.

Does anyone know whats happening with ActiveSync/Nokia???

Your Nokia rep is out of sync (no pun intended). Microsoft has licensed Exchange ActiveSync technology to Palm (Palm OS-based Treo series(, Motorola (the MotoSync software used in some Linux based devices) and Nokia (some high end S60 models only).

Nokia is not releasing the client to all devices. Not because "they would never use ActiveSync" (this is your rep being a zealot), but because it costs money for the licence and probably (don't quote me on this), they don't want to go that far.

You want to sync to an Exchange Server from your S60 device? Try DataViz RoadSync. The software has versions for Symbian S60, Symbian UIQ and Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (for MSFP, which is not existant on older devices). RoadSync provides all Exchange ActiveSync functionality, including Direct Push e-mail and remote wipe, etc.

And kick your Nokia rep, it doesn't look like he's there to help you, but to keep his reign as a mobile device supplier on your company.

Actually I have a Nokia 6230, I usually buy in the 6xxx range as they are small robust but cheap enough to replace if I drop them.

The phone has options to sync across GSM to calender/contacts servers, but not ActiveSync. And the software they provide works by only having a local connection.

I assume the DataViz RoadSync software won't work with my phone.

As for the licensing, I didn't realise that the ActiveSync license could be a cost per device, I thought they had paid x a year for it - but that makes more sense.
