I didn't see one of these threads in the first three pages of this board so I thought I'd start one. Remember to link to the http://www.windowsphone.com/ entry and note whether it is available to only certain versions of Windows Phone.

The ones I like so far include:

Geekzone

- WP 7.5+
- Remember to set an API key (in your profile) so you can view the forums.
- Read only for now.

Subway

- WP 7.0+
- I love this app despite not regularly eating Subway.

My 2Degrees

- WP 7.5+
- This app works but isn't amazing. Definitely very useful though :)

AirNZ mPass

- WP 7.0+
- Excellent little application, has a few things that need to be fixed but overall very handy to replace your boarding pass.

How recently have you installed the Geekzone app. I uninstalled it last month as it was constantly returning connection errors whenever I used it?

pretty sure I had the API key set right.

The apps I use most - Not that they're necessarily 'great' but they have the functionality I want, when I want it. They are all, however, free as I am a cheapass.

Kindle App - it works, glitches are few, could use some fine tuning - is tricky to return to library once finished reading a book, you have to archive it to close it.

Guitar Chords - Shows the fingering and alternatives, plays the note. Nice.

NZHerald - pretty pictures.

QuickResize - downsize pics quickly for uploading.

Taptitude - stacks of little games in one app. Excellent time-filler.

Connectivity Shortcuts - let me put a tile for Wifi settings on main screen

DalekSoundboard - For waking the kids up in the morning "EXTERMINAAAATE!!"

Flashlight - for reading port numbers under desks

Level - Tools, its a guy thing.

Skype on my windows phone has got to be my favourite.  You can make New Zealand landline calls for less than 3c a minute, or instant message for free.

I am also a very big user of MS One Note and the windows phone app is simply brilliant.

I love the OneNote capabilities too. I haven't used Skype much before but I'll check that out.

Some more I installed over the last few days.

Allrecipes

- WP 7.5+
- Surprisingly handy and has no advertisements (that I have noticed)

Call Recorder

- WP 7.5+
- I'll admit I can't really think of a legitimate use for this app but it is fun. You need to have the call on speaker to actually hear anything though. Anyone know what the law is in NZ regarding call recording? Is it one party must know or do both parties need to be informed?

XE Currency

- WP 7.0+
- Already used this half a dozen times. Very handy indeed.

eHow

- WP 7.5+
- Just wait till someone asks you "What part of a Leek plant can you eat?" and you'll realise how handy this app can be.

Flashlight XT

- WP 7.5+
- A specific version of the above mentioned app, has no ads and is very simple.

Solitaire

- WP 7.5+
- Gotta have something to do in meetings.

NZ Cell Sites

- WP 7.5+
- I think this is pretty cool because reasons. It does not serve a specific purpose but I like to know things.

NZ Radio

- WP 7.5+
- Awesome app for those who like radio. Uses internet streams so you need network access. You can call and SMS popular stations from within the app too if that is your thing.

Sophie Cam

- WP 7.5+
- If you like the instagram photo trend then you will love this. It is only free for a limited time, soon you will have to pay to install it so grab it while it is hot.

TripIt

- WP 7.0+
- If you use this site already, the app will be very handy :)

VEVO

- WP 7.5+
- If you, or someone close to you, loves the top 40 music video charts then this app is pretty nice. I haven't run into any advertisements from it yet which is pretty unbelievable.

WLG Airport

- WP 7.5+
- Pretty much what the title describes. Pretty handy and has cool cancelled/delayed/on time/early icons. I haven't found one for Auckland yet. There is an NZ flights app but it looks like it is mainly for AirNZ flights.

Skype won't receive calls unless it's the running app. On the other hand, while in the US I had a huge amount of data, so used Skype all the time to call back home - sometimes using my credit to call and ask wife to fire Skype on her Mac then switching to free Skype-to-Skype call.

Pretty good. I was calling from Las Vegas, on the street, using AT&T 3G back to our VFX line first, then to Skype on a Mac and the call was very clear, with no drops. I guess it would be similar or better over WiFi.

Photosynth is pretty cool, thanks for the heads up on that one. I have a Lumia, does the SkyDrive app offer anything that Windows Phone hasn't already built in?

The separate SkyDrive app available form the marketplace lets you delete photos/files that are on your SkyDrive account. Also it lets you upload full size resolution photos that your phone took as the integrated SkyDrive upload feature reduces the resolution to save on data.

Skydrive works very well with MS OneNote which you can have on your Computer, Tablet or Windows Phone.  OneNote is also available for android and IOS.

I have been using that quite a lot lately. The coolest part about it is writing lists (like a 'to do') which are synced to your phone automatically. I used to SMS myself things to do up until I used this :)

Peter,

OneNote is a fantastic product and there are endless possibilities.

Consider setting up a shared notebook with your partner/family.  You could have a shopping list page, where during the week you add items as you discover they are needed.

The next person going past the shops, now has the shopping list on their smartphone.
