As a new (3 months) user of HP Ipaq 6828 and Active Sync 4.1 I was wondering if anyone could help me understand why I am getting multiple copies of some contacts when I sync my contacts between the PDA and my home PC.  Sorry if they are dumb questions, but if you have changed a contact on one device how does Active Sync know which contact is the correct one?  Is there a way you can alter the PDA contact list using your computer and keyboard? At the moment I would have to say the syncing "isn't all its cracked up to be".

Welcome to Geekzone. I've used Windows Mobile devices synchronising with my Outlook for years and the only time I've found a duplicate was when creating a new partnership I clicked the "Merge" option instead of "Overwrite" option when asked what to do with records on both sides. Otherwise it is consistently good at keeping records.

If you are synchronising with Outlook I think your .pst file may be corrupt and causing this problem. Close Outllook, open File Explorer and browse to the folder where Office is installed. There you will find a program called SCANPST.EXE... This program will check the .pst file and repair any problems.

Thanks for the advice.  I was able to use the repair tool (took a few attempts to find the file that needed repairing but a google search got me through) which did find some errors.  I will also look closely at whether I have merged or overwritten the contacts.  Thanks again.
