Hi all,

Got a Treo 700wx that gets an error when I try to sync with our Exchange server. "Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permissions to sync with your current settings". The code is 0X85010004. If I use my login details, it works fine but not this particular user. He's in the same OU as me and all the Exchange settings are the same. I've reset the Treo etc but still no luck. Any ideas?

I understand your Pocket PC can synchronise but not his?

Have you checked in the User administration on the domain if he's allowed to use those services?

Also, there's a hotfix for a similar problem, but only if the server is running Windows 2000. Check it here.

Yeah, it's all good at that end. I'm using the same phone but it works with my account and not his. I'm going to install ActiveSync 4.1 on my laptop and try syncing it that way and see how it goes. I can get to OWA from the phone and log in as him fine...

Activesync will make no difference for Exchange ActiveSync - I don't even have my Palm Treo paired with ActiveSync in any computer, it's all over the air.

I found another reference to this error on Chris' pocketpcfaq.com:

Reasons:
1. The Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directory on your server is configured to require SSL and you are using a device without SSL.
2. The Exchange virtual directory on your mailbox server is configured to require SSL.
3. This error could occur if host headers are being used and the request goes to the wrong Web site.

Workarounds:
1. a. On your Pocket PC 2003-based device, click Start, ActiveSync, Tools, Options, Server and check the box “This server uses an SSL connection”.
2. On your Smartphone 2003-based device, click Start, ActiveSync, Menu, Options, Server Settings, Connection and check the box “This server uses an SSL connection”.
3. Verify that host headers are configured correctly.

It could be that the SSL box is not checked, and the server doesn't allow non-HTTPS connections? Or it could be that the user has no access rights to the ActiveSync directory on that server, in which case using your username works fine but not his.

Yes, the form authentication problem is another thing to check. Usually a problem when the IIS server is modified from the original configuration and the children nodes are modified as well...

The default install of IIS and Exchange Server does not have this problem.
