Hello,
I've recently brought an HTC Apache and being a bit 'green' when it come to Pocket PC/Windows mobile devices, I'm really looking for suggestions on a few of those 'must have' apps.

So far, I'm looking at The Missing sync which is a program for Mac OS X which allows one to sync with pocket PC's. H

owever does anyone have any suggestions? Obivously looking for either free or priced low to mid range as this device is for personal use.

In my humble opinion, Scott Seligman's PocketNav is indispensable. It allows you to quickly toggle between open apps and manually close apps to free up memory. (The Pocket PC OS does not 'close' programs, it only minimizes them, and only frees memory as it sees fit, but doesn't always do a good job)

His website is http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html He has Launcher which I also use. Both programs are free. Have fun!

I use...

Pocket IRC
Magicbutton (tiny and free... does the whole 'close the programs' thing)
SPB RSS (no OPML export, might look for alternative at end of current trial)
SPB GPRS Monitor (works for CDMA)
SPB Diary

This represents about 90% of my usage on my pocket pc (a Palm Treo 700wx)

SPB pocket plus is the best program. It has the close application functionality plus adds so much more. Its something I couldn't live without now.

Also Resco Explorer 2005. A huge improvement over the built in file explorer. Especially if you want access to the Windows folder. The registry editor also comes in handy.

All freeware:

I use 'IPToday' plugin to display your IP address on the today screen. <--- ABSOLUTELY VALUBLE x 1000.
Its EXTREMELY useful to tell when you've connected up to something.

I use 'vBar' to display a minimise-&-close button on the top-right of apps. Click to minimise, click & hold to close. Little arrow next to it reveals the task list. From that little list you can close each app running or all or all except active app.

I use 'psshutxp' to simply display a 'X' at the bottom of the display screen. Nothing fancy. You click that you're prompted with a light-off, reboot, or turn off option like in Windows XP.

I use 'PocketLAN' which includes traceroute/Ping/LAN/ip-scanner and DHCP utility.

I use a tool called 'Total Commander' for Pocket PC. It's an enormous improvement to the built-in file manager. Its really fast and tiny. It also includes a FTP / LAN client and registry editor behind the scenes (basically you go 'up' from the root folder to find a FTP / filesystem / Network option)

I use PocketPuTTY for SSH connections. The next version should let you specify ports manually.
