For 2 years that I have been using my HTC Trophy. As much as I am enjoying using WP7/WP7.5, I think its ecology could've been a bit better.

Taking a leaf off Apple's approach, you can have single/main iTunes/Apple ID for purchases, and add other Apple ID for personalisation.

However with Windows Phone, the primary ID is used not just purchasing BUT also for many Microsoft services. Which lead to, single household with multiple WP devices and multiple purchases of same applications.

A workaround is to use a separate Microsoft ID as primary ID which controls the purchasing, however no other services will be active on this account. BUT that lead to less-than-ideal approach for not making the most of WP7/7.5's features like integrated SkyDrive or XBoxLive as these depended on the use of primary ID.

Unless this is changing - and happy for anyone who know the insight to this - I don't see WP being all that open/friendly to my way of life... Which is sad as the device and OS are good and with high potential, but just the few niggy limitation that make it less than ideal for us.

Anyone household with WP devices, how do you manage your devices and apps?

p/s: I do know there's XBoxLive Family Pack, if only WP could adopt Family Pack approach yet allowing individualisation for SkyDrive and XBoxLive features, then that'll be awesome. All about cost saving and remove duplication.

I'm not sure how this could be achieved and why it is necessary. The Microsoft ID is linked - intentionally - to e-mail accounts, SkyDrive, Xbox Live and all other services.

As I see it all you want is to be cheap and avoid purchasing an application twice for two devices. This is the same as wanting to purchase one Windows install CD and use it on multiple computers.

Why would you need to manage a group of Windows Phone devices? Surely if someone is able to own one they can manage it themselves?

Well coming from familiarity of buying apps/content on single iTunes account, and able to achieve that on all the devices, why should I buy same apps on many devices simply the users of these devices have their own set of services they choose to use?

you can deploy the apps you purchased to all the phones for which your primary id is being used... but you really shouldn't be able to install them on the wife, kids and mother-in-laws phones as well. Where do you stop? Maybe you buy one app and deploy it to everyone in the company? How about everyone at a school? ..... to me, it seems an unreasonable request...

There's limit already in place for up to 5 devices - set by Microsoft.
