New Zealand, 6 December, 2012 — HTC, a global leader in mobile innovation and design, has unveiled the stunning Windows Phone 8S by HTC featuring the new Windows Phone 8 operating system. The device boasts stunning design, studio-quality sound with Beats Audio™ and world class camera capabilities.

The Windows Phone 8S by HTC features an industrial slim design, scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, a clear screen packed with colour and detail and comes integrated with Beats Audio.

HTC devices paired with the Windows Phone 8 platform offer customers a clear choice and a truly unique device experience, which has led to Microsoft announcing the Windows Phone 8 by HTC devices as the “signature” Windows phones. This means that the Windows Phone 8S by HTC will be used as one of the first devices of choice by Microsoft whenever the Windows Phone 8 platform needs to be showcased.

“Microsoft announcing our Windows Phone 8 devices as the “signature” Windows Phone 8 smartphones really demonstrates the strength of our products” said Ben Hodgson, Country Manager, HTC Australia and New Zealand. “The Windows Phone 8S by HTC is one of the Windows device with Beats Audio providing consumers with a premium audio experience and dynamic sound. Unique in style, consumers now can choose from the two colours to best suit their lifestyle and personal style.”

Weighing 113 grams with battery, the Windows Phone 8S by HTC is light and slim and comes in a solid block of coloured polycarbonate. With Windows Phone Live Tiles, you can arrange your Start screen just how you want it and make it easy to see everything that’s going on with the people and passions in your life in real-time. You can make a Live Tile for anyone and almost anything, and pin it right to your Start screen, personalising your device to a whole new level. Pin a person or an app and you instantly know their latest updates just by looking at your phone.

Capture and Share Your World
A physical camera button, accessible even from the lock screen, lets you instantly point, shoot and share images from the 5mp, 720p autoflash camera. The Windows Phone 8S by HTC allows you to create inspiring, original photos with the built-in lenses and shows images on the big, vibrant display. A physical shutter button makes it quick and easy to capture spontaneous action, even if the phone is locked.

Sounds like a nice phone,  I think the 4 inch screen is a good size without being too bulky.  The ability to directly access the camera is a good feature.

WP8 is getting a lot of attention and seems to be getting quite a bit of traction.  The amount of apps will increase rapidly as market penetration increases.  Meanwhile the mainstream apps seem to be fairly well covered.  Interesting times ahead I think with the battle between the various OS's.

Just had a play with work mate's personal Vodafone version of the HTC 8S. Very very nice. Feels really good in the hand. Waiting for Telecom to launch their version. Going to get Wife this. Camera quality even at 5MP looks really good.

Well after the weekend playing the a vodafone 8s (work phone)

I made the move and went and got a telecom one from Dick Smith for $380 (got a discount because i asked for one) they have them for $409, RRP is $449.

Just don't go to harvey norman as they have them for $499

So now i have 2 8s's 1 for work and 1 for person, the S3 is now sitting in the draw.

Do you guys simply ask the sales guy to sell it for $380 at DSE and they agree or you have to push them a bit to give it at that price?

sounds like the white ones are better (they do 850/900/2100) where the blue (vodafone) only does 900/2100

And never pay retail, always ask for a discount, worst they can say is no.
