Hello,

I was led to your page by HP support concerning my trying to connect my iPAQ4155 to the internet via my new Motorola V600. I have all of the services from my provider as well as the user names and passwords. However, I can't make a connection. It tells me that the phone is there, the phone lights up, the connection begins, then it disconnects. I saw an article on how to connect via GPRS and I followed the step by step instructions. The only screen or command I don't get is on my phone to accept the connection. Can anyone help me with this? I know the phone is not commercially available in the U.S., but it would be very handy to check e-mail from my iPAQ via my Bluetooth phone. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin Ahlstrom

Hello! What's your mobile operator, and have you used any init string in the connection screens on your Pocket PC?

My carrier is Cingular and I'm not sure about the init strings. Can you explain?

You know the user and password. Do you know the APN name used by cingular?

I think it's something like

APN: ISP.CINGULAR
Username: WIXDC001@W5.MYCINGULAR.COM
Password: ZXY203DC9K0402

In this case, go back to your connection settings on the Pocket PC and enter the init string +CGDCONT=1,,"ISP.CINGULAR" where appropriate.

The user name is an older one suggested by my local technician, tried the new one and it didn't work either, it is TRESDC5RFDX@W3.MYCINGULAR.COM. I can't see the password, al ******, and don't remember what he told me to put there.

APN: have no idea. No input field on my iPAQ so I'm not sure!

I used the dial up number you had in the forum posting of *99***1#

To enter the init string, open Settings, change to Connections, change to Advanced, tap the Select Networks button.

Select the network you want to change and tap the Edit button.Find the connection, and click the Edit... button. Tap Next a couple of times until you see the Advanced... button. Tap it and you'll see a field to enter the init string.

I entered the string you suggested, but to no avail. I also changed the user name and password back to the newest from Cingular. The error message was the same, "connection failed and unable to reconnect."

It seems that your Pocket PC is correctly configured then. What about the mobile phone? Do you have a APN defined in this phone? Have you managed to access WAP pages from this phone?

YES, I can access the internet via WAP on the phone. I looked at the APN in the phone and it is wap.cingular. I changed the setting for service type to HTTP from WAP and then tried the APN with isp.cingular, at the suggestion of my local tech. and the message was the same, can't connect.

I'm having the exact same problem but I'm on T-Mobile. I can connect to wap sites and t-zones from the phone just fine but my Ipaq will not connect. I know the phone is ok because I can use Mobile Phone Tools and connect to the internet through it from my laptop. I monitored the MPT to see what it was sending the V600 and the log follows:

08:29:02,41 Modem : Bluetooth Modem (Motorola CE, Copyright 2000 - V600)
08:29:02,46 --> ATZ
08:29:02,74 <-- OK
08:29:02,74 --> AT E0
08:29:03,03 <-- AT E0OK
08:29:03,03 --> AT+CGDCONT=3,"IP","internet2.voicestream.com",,0,0
08:29:03,30 <-- OK
08:29:03,30 --> AT+CGQREQ=3,0,0,0,0,0
08:29:03,58 <-- OK
08:29:03,58 --> AT+CGQMIN=3,0,0,0,0,0
08:29:03,87 <-- OK

Now for the Pocket PC 2003...

I've tried the phone numbers *99#, *99***#, *99***3 and so.
I entered the init string +CGDCONT=3,,"internet2.voicestream.com" (cannot put anymore chars in this field so I eliminated the "IP") in the advanced init for the connection and still no luck.

Is there a tool to watch what the Pocket sends the modem?

Note: when the pocket pc starts to dial I see the bluetooth symbol show up for less than 2 seconds and then appear again after about 10 seconds for another 2 seconds then the pocket pc tells me it can't connect for some unkown reason.

If anyone can help out on this it would be greatly appreciated as Motorola says it's the Ipaq's fault and HP says it's the phones problem

THanks,

David

Hooray!! My local salesperson/techy found the information below and it worked!!! I can now receive broadband e-mail through my iPAQ as well as browse the web all via the Bluetooth connection. Again I am using Cingular and my iPAQ is a 4155. If anyone needs help I'd be glad to share the other settings for the phone (Motorola V600) as well as my iPAQ.

Thanks for all of your help!!!!

FROM MY AGENT:

The username and password info:
User name: WIXDC001@W5.MYCINGULAR.COM
Password: ZXY203DC9K0402
the dialing number for you Ipaq should be *99***3# and don't worry about that modem string thing with the correct username and password that should help.

Kevin:

Did they ask you to change any other settings of the V600. I tried eliminating the init string and then dial the *99***3# and I still get no connection. Granted I'm using T-Mobile and the setup for them may be very differnent. So far their tech support has been no help at all.

If you have any other suggestions I would certainly appreciate them.

Thanks,

David

Not really. I am using the WAP setting for service type, not the WAP secure etc..., The big event came when we tried the new user id and password. I suspect, after I tried three different user id's and passwords, that this is where your problems lie. I guess you can continue to dig with T-Mobile support to find someone who actually uses a PDA and phone combo. That's where I'm fortunate, my agent is a gadget freak like me and we always seem to find a way to get things working.

Good Luck,

Kevin

I forgot something. Did you change the number in the init string to match the *99***(?)# number. I had to change the 1 to a 3.

Here is his exact message, he sent two of the same, and I found this one had the info on changing the number.

hey kevin this is daniel from cingular I found something that might work! Try these settings for username and password:

User name: WIXDC001@W5.MYCINGULAR.COM
Password: ZXY203DC9K0402

and for the number to dial it should be 3 a three in place of the one in the dialing string and don't use that special modem string with the commas and stuff in them

this might come twice I thought i had it sent but my computer started acting weird so I wanted to make sure the email went out

let me know if it works..

Good Luck!!

Kevin:

Can you tell me what Flex version and S/W version you are running on the V600?

You can find this under the settings/phone status/other information menu.

Thanks,

David
