bought a Vodafone htc 8s phone and works fine on Vodafone and 2 degrees networks. Now want to use with a Telecom sim card as well but it won't detect Telecom network. Have picked NZ and Telecom in connection setup but when scanning for networks it does not find Telecom network. The 8s is supposed to be able to use GSM850/900/1800/1900 and HSPA/WCDMA 900/2100 so I should be able to swap between networks when swapping sim cards out. Vodafone support assured me this could be done and I didn't want a separate phone for each network.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Telecom uses WCDMA850. This is not the same as GSM850.

Telecom also uses WDCMA2100, but only as infill, therefore the Vodafone HTC 8S will not work on Telecom.

Your phone doesn't support the frequencies required for Telecom, only 2degrees and Vodafone. If you want to use Telecom you'll need to buy another phone.

Thanks for the reply but the HTC website states that the 8S can use WCDMA 850/2100 as well so I presume it should be an advanced setting configuration change on the phone itself. I saw a post that stated to use the following code to change the network setting although I do not have the option on my phone at present. *#*#4636#*#*.
Any help appreciated.

Actually you are right, it is only 900/2100 for WCDMA. I guess this must have caught the Vodafone people out as well. Funny thing is though now that Telecom are selling the phone it will be interesting to see what frequency they set their phones up on.

The Vodafone 8S is only available in a 900/2100 model.

The slightly higher spec 8X supports a quad band UMTS radio that does both 850 and 900 and would work on both Vodafone and Telecom.

As for Telecom selling it one would presume that HTC have made a second version of the 8S that features 850/2100 support. This is still pretty much the norm in the mobile world with most low end phones being available in two different versions.

The Telecom model is probably 850/2100 but I can't find any specs. It's supposed to be available on Tuesday so the specs may be available then.

Telecom one will support WCDMA 850. There is no way telecom will start selling a phone without finding out if it will work on their network or not.

OEM web sites usually list all variants of a model. You will then see retail and operator web sites listing each individual variant.

Unless the phone is quad-band or penta-band then there's obviously two completely different WCDMA models being sold: one supporting 850/2100 (Telecom) and another supporting 900/2100 WCDMA (Vodafone and 2degrees).

In which case a Telecom HTC 8S would be a lot more valuable than a Vodafone HTC 8S as it supports all three bands used in New Zealand.

Hi guys

Yes the Telecom one works on everything (i have 1 of each vodafone and telecom htc 8s)

Great phones however the telecom white/black one looks way better than the vodafone blue one :)

Now just have to pick up a 16gig sd card tonight for my xbox music.

If you are after an 8s then dick smith has them for 409.
