My auto Skydrive upload is not saving my photos from the camera roll in original high resolution - the images are downsized quite a bit and the file sizes are ~250kB when i view them online on Skydrive.    I have followed the instructions given on windows phone site (http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/how-to/wp8/photos/automatically-save-the-photos-and-videos-you-take-to-skydrive) but I can't find step 4 on my phone.

I have also downloaded the Skydrive app and under settings in that app, I can set the upload and download resolution to 'original' but that doesn't seem to do anything i.e. the photos still upload under low res.

I have managed to upload high res pics to Skydrive by going to a photo I have taken, tap more (3 dots at bottom) and then 'save to SkyDrive'.  This saves the photo in high res but under a new folder called 'Mobile uploads' in Skydrive rather than 'Camera roll' where all the low res photos are stored.

Just wondering if this is how it's suppose to work or am I missing something in the settings?  I just want my high res photos taken on my camera to be backed up to Skydrive automatically.

Thanks in advance.

Automatic uploading to skydrive is only supported for phones in the US. The rest of the world gets to suffer through poor quality uploading only. You can get around this by changing your regional settings to United States. This will open up the settings in the Photo settings to upload images in full quality.

Cheers

Does changing Region also unlock the other features we are missing? Like the Music recognition?

No - only the skydrive options as far as I can tell. The music sharing etc is based on the geographic location of your xbox live account. US accounts get the full feature set, everyone else gets less.

I changed my region, browser & search language to US and regional format to NZ and that has removed quite a few of my bug bears.. I can now select what quality photos and videos to upload to skydrive automatically, my facebook feed can now be filtered in the people hub as I have on my desktop, there are more options on who I want to share each post with as well. Bing search has local scout enabled (although doesn't recognise where I am - have to investigate this) and top headlines, videos, local deals.

One downside is that I have to repurchase apps I bought when my region was NZ.. Still on my first day of using it with the different region and I feel like its a significant improvement!

You have to repurchase apps? This is not an improvement. This shows how dumb Microsoft is with this region lock stuff. But you shouldn't lose access to existing apps.

did you just change regions in the phone settings, or did you create a new windows account in the US and change the phone to use the US account?

changing region in my WP7 doesn't break access to apps I've bought, but linking a different windows account would for sure.

Just the region on the phone, I have left my account as it is which is what confuses me. Will have to investigate why that happens..

Seems to be a "feature" with Windows Phone 8 that changing your region on the phone also changes the Windows store region to US

That is ridiculous. It definitely did not do it in WP7. I had my phone set to US but all my apps were charged in NZD.

I followed what you did and got my photo upload to Skydrive to work at original resolution!
All my apps are still on my phone - I've only installed free ones though so not sure if that behaves differently for apps that cost money.

So I got round the issue of my paid apps not being available by signing in online onto the NZ win phone store and reinstalling them from the purchase history list.. My guess is that you can sign in on either store and push apps that you want...
