Probably because the majority of people will be using android and iOS phones. Developing for another platform will be expensive.

Interesting ? so you don't think that Microsoft will slowly gain back there lull and take back the mobile market?

That's a little short sighted I would suggest.  While Android and iOS have the lions share of the market right now that's not necessarily going to be the case in the future.  Ignoring other platforms might be costly in the future.

However if it were me I'd be developing a responsive website which can be accessed by any mobile browser and putting some good features on that instead of trying to develop apps for various OS's and then keeping up with their sometimes many variants.

I think it would come down to return on investment for these companies. Still many good apps are still only avaliable on iOS, and not even on andriod. TVNZ for example,(not that their apps are that great), don't make android apps ...yet. TV3s app only got released on android a few months ago, having been on IOS for years, although it is still quite buggy on android.
Perhaps if there was a universal language of apps across all plaftforms, like it is for browsers with HTML 5, it would be better, but can't see apple doing that.

Well that would be the smart way to look at it

I suppose I was little dissapointed as the reason I recently changed over from android was the whole connected thing
desktop laptop phone

I also liked the windows 8 tile thing
anyway I;ve asked pricespy what th ego is so I will expect a
"we will be developing an app in the future' response

nothing stopping other manufacturers from making a better Android/iOS operating system. Until then, the majority share will still go to the big players

Hugely expensive, and probably impossible to get it taken up. The same thing could be said that there is nothing stopping someone setting a competitor to google or facebook, or apple, or trademe. Hugely expensive, and those have already got market share.
