Plugged my TelecomNZ Lumia800 in this morning to sync podcasts.

Notification of new update available pops up.

Now installing 7.10.8860.142

Installer says "Update includes several quality improvements"

Nothing on the Windows Phone update history page - http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/How-to/wp7/basics/update-history

Wonder if this fixes the live tile updates

Thanks for the heads up. Yes this seems to be the new one. I wonder if the handset who had already been updated to 7.10.8858 will get this one as well - or have to endure the four to six weeks "staggered" release hell.

Well, here is the answer: installed Zune again just to see if my old devices would receive the update and here it is.

First time in two years I didn't have to do any trick to be offered an update for Windows Phone 7.

Yep, have been prompted to update. Haven't had a chance to plug into a PC yet though

7 Trophy, supplied by Vodafone if that helps

Pushed the 7.8 update to my OEM Mozart when it first came out, and received another notification today! I never really noticed any Live Tile issues so I really don't care about it too much...

Don't settle for 8860, plug it in again, you should be greeted with 8862.144

Plugged in my HTC Titan running 7.8. Got offered and downloaded both 8860 and 8862. Took 10 minutes to download and install both updates via Zune.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I found this article that explains the reason for the new update

It doesn't explain much though.

It seems that Microsoft release two updates after 7.8 was introduced. My LG was updated to 7.8 and I was expecting one update (the Live Tile fix) but then it appears they released one, and then realised something wasn't going well then did a second one.

The Windows Phone update history page is almost as good as a Mac OS X update history. Almost non-commital with vague comments about "improvements". Granted most users wouldn't know if "issue x was fixed" and would care less.

With Windows on the other hand people can easily search for an issue they are having on their laptop or desktop and find a KB article pointing to a fix or workaround.

I have Windows Phone (and have had Windows-based mobile devices since Pocket PC OS 2002) and I think Windows Phone is pretty good. But we have to keep pushing otherwise they won't make it better. As it is now I think of Windows Phone as the Microsoft version of Android in terms of software releases. Slow to come out and too little changes when they do.

Have to admit though, the 2 500kb updates speed the phone up a bit. Pretty happy with it, until the Z10 officially drops.

Not that impressed with the Z10 really. It seems Android devices are coming with more and more apps that really just look like the old PC days of crapware loaded by OEMs.

With so many great apps in the marketplaces why do the manufacturers need to create a "social hub" or a DLNA server? Those are things developers could easily provide for.

I'd rather have a great out of the box experience, faster updates and good email support than some of the gimmick apps those Android folks are developing.

Google Contact and Calendar users.   You may want to read this article before you do the update.
