Hello everybody

i have a problem which i have been battling with the last few days. i called up all the customer care centres around. no help at all. i was hoping someone could help me out here.
i own a nokia 3650. my pc is a p4 1,7 Ghz system runnin winXp. i connect the phone to the pc using a billionton bluetooth dongle, usb port. my service provider offers a gprs connect.
so i wanted to connect the pc to the net through the phone using the gprs.
i can connect the pc and the phone through blueetooth using mrouter and transfer data to and fro,but when i use the dial up networking facility and dial to *99***1# it says my modem is not configured properly or the port is already in use by some other application and so exit those applications...
i checked but couldnt any applications like that.. and in my systray there is an icon sayin an netwrok cable is unplugged., n when i double click on tat it says bluetooth lan access driver netwrok cable unplugged..
can anyone help me with this?

Don't worrry about the icon notifying of LAN cable disconnected - it's normal unless you have a LAN client connected to your computer.

Try checking your procedure by following this guide and make sure not step is overlooked.

You don't say what country or mobile operator you are. The number *99***1# is specific to the mobile phone configuration. You may need to add a init string, something like +CGDCONT="1",,"internet". The APN (internet in this example) will vary depending on the operator you're connecting.

Also, do you have data services enabled on this account? Are you able to connect from to WAP using this phone?

oh i didn't mention that did i? i'm in india and i connect to airtel. The number *99***1# was given to me when i called up the customer care centre for the provider.
yes i can connect to wap from the mobile cos i have been downloading some ringtones and all from a wap site.
and about that lan connection thing, i was playin around with the settings and all, now it says connected to bluetooth network at 700 kbps whenever i start the device. i tried out the guide and its longer version yesterday night. it says the modem is not configured properly. or the port is in use. doesnt even start to dial.
i went to add hardware section and added a new modem as nokia bluetooth modem and tried connecting from that. same problem shows up. in diagnostics when i click on query modem it says the port is already in use by another application. i also tried connecting by right clicking on the bluetooth device and selectin dial up networking.. it has the same result. i was fiddling around the connection all night. no use.
another thing. in the nokia cd there is a modem setup file. and when i install that, after the first few screens there comes an option for selecting either IrDa or bluetooth modem. only the IrDa option is selectable. bluetooth option is grayed out, unelectable. could that be the problem?
but in my modem tab in device manager i now have.. Netodragon 56k modem, bluetooth modem, nokia bluetooth modem and bluetooth fax modem.. i tried connectin wid all of them.
could it be a problem with the bluetooth device? but i can send data from the mobile to the pc and vice versa.

Hello

I am facing almost a similar problem. I am trying to browse Internet using a GPRS enabled PCMCIA card which has a pocket to hold the mobile phone sim. The sim I am using is from Airtel India. I have not been able to connect till now. I have been able to configiuer the PCMCIA card and have enterred the *99***1# number in place of phone nos. It asks for APN Settings. The service provider i.e Airtel are unable to answer this. Neither do I have any user name and passwords.

I have tried to use the card both on IBM p3 and Sony vio laptops but no success. U have mentioned that U are able to connect using "blueetooth using mrouter " what is this? Is it a utility to get connected to GPRS.

Appreciate a solution from your end.

Vineet it sounds like your mobile phone is not correctly configured. *99***1# requires a APN configured on CID #1. Your mobile phone company should have a OTA configuration tool or at least a help page explaining what parameters to use when configuring your phone.
