Hi,

I have a Motorola i920 phone. I downloaded Activesync and set it to sync my Outlook inbox to the server. When I try to sync I get the message - Synchronization failed. Verify that you have entered the correct server name and try again. Error Code: INTERNET_7 I checked and the server name is correct. Any suggestions?

This error happens when your device can't find the server. There are many solutions, and many causes...

Is this server on the same network as this computer running ActiveSync? If yes, are you trying to use the external name (the one you would use to connect to the server from the Internet)? If yes then the name is not known within your network and resolves to the router's IP address. In this case you can add an entry to your HOSTS file on your computer with the correct internal IP address for this server.

Another thing is to check that the server name is correct in the configuration.

Test that your device can access the network or Internet when connected to ActiveSync. Download and install VxUtils (www.cam.com) and try using the program to PING known servers. If you have no connectivity, check that your device settings for Internet access is set to Automatic and check that no firewall software is blocking ActiveSync on your computer.

Hi -

I don't think that the server is running on the same network. Is there a way to check that out? Does it matter that the server is a Microsoft Exchange Server?

The server must be Microsoft Exchange if you are trying to synchronise directly to it. Otherwise you have to synchronise to Microsoft Outlook on your computer.

You network administrator will be able to tell you that. But be sure tyo install the VxUtil program to help establish if your device has connectivity. Without this very basic step you won't be able to go very far...
