Howdy people,

Looking for some help on this one, my WP8 running the same apps as my old S2 did is hoovering up my data at a spectacular rate. Does anyone know of any hacked apk for Data Sense so we can install it on non-Verizon phones? The stuff the apk needs is baked into the OS and we all get it in the september update, but for now it's a Verizon exclusive.

In terms of apps using data I'm using:

  • FB messages (Message Hub)
  • whatsApp
  • Facebook App
  • Emails
  • Calender
  • Contacts
  • Words With Friends
Everything else is logged out and should therefore not be using data

How much data is your phone using and how are you tracking it?

2degrees (3rd party) app and the 2d website. It used 20mb in 3 hours of no WiFi - this had no email attachments or app updates

Check your Background tasks to see what is actually running all the time - Settings, swipe right and select background tasks. Then you can block any that you don't want to run in the background.

so essentially you are relying on the 2D billing system to be accurate and timely.

That's probably ok, but to be sure you should install a different app to monitor usage directly on the phone.  that will tell you at least whether it is your phone or the 2D billing that is the problem.

I had an issue with high data usage 150~300mb a day (caught it early luckily) and whilst I'm not 100% sure it was the problem the problem went away after I disabled the tumbr app from processing in the background.

I'm looking for such an app :P

my current monitoring method is inefficient. I uninstalled tumblr immediately upon noticing the data drain, still gobbling it though and running far less than Droid was

i had a similar problem with my nokia 620 on vodafone prepay.
using 10 mb in 20 mins. I had to turn off mobile data

Very difficult to diagnose without datasense. I talked to Vodafone and they could not help.

Anyway, i believe that the problem was Viber, though I am not sure.

I uninstalled and problem and the problem went away. Eventually i reinstalled and since then it has not reoccurred.

So cannot be sure if it just went away by itself or Viber was the problem, but I suggest that Push Notifications from WhatsApp could be your problem.

hope that data sense or an alternative is available soon but no indication from vodafone:
