Welcome to Geekzone... You are thinking of a ROM update. But this is not the solution for all cases. The lockups are just symptoms and could be some software installed on your i-mate SP5 causing it.

The best thing to do is perform a Clear Storage. There's a program in the menu that will erase all contents of the memory, and restore your smartphone to the "new" condition.

You can then use it and see if no lockups happen. If there's nothing then reinstall one software at a time. This will help you determine if it was a misconfiguration, or a third party software.

If there are lockups even with no programs installed, then look for an update on the i-mate website johnr linked before.

Hello and just wanted to say i have updated all my settings so my phone now works perfectly on vodafone nz. i can send and recieve pxt and connect wirelessly to the net. I have to set up my email settings but i will get to that later .
i am just enjoying my phone now. btw the battery life on this phone is excellent. i had a samsung z500v and the battery life if i used the phone too much per day would be needing charging every day.

is there anything i need to do with this fone. that is virus protector  or programs i should put on. should i update the system somehow

would it be better for me to take the phone somewhere and have it updated or something.. ( i am so new with this type of phone any help is appreciated )

cheers
