Hi there
I've just upgraded my old imate jam to a jasjam.  Nice unit.  The only problem is I am struggling to get my vista machine to recognise it so I can load apps, sync files etc.   It comes up "usb device not recognised".  It has only seen it once, recognised the device name and let me drop some files on it.  Every other attempt to plug it in results in the "usb device not recognised" message.  Don't ask me what was different the time I got it to work because I have absolutely no idea.  :-0

It is also set up to sync with my email contacts and tasks with a remote exchange server over the vodafone network if that makes a difference.

Any advice?

If you are using a USB Hub try connecting the device directly on a USB port. Also try creating the parnership after a fresh hard reset.

On Windows Vista, make sure you have installed the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC). There's no ActiveSync on Windows Vista.

thanks for that. I did try a direct connection with no luck. Vista does have the mobile device manager installed. I guess that leaves me with the hard reset which I am reluctant to do as the unit was sent over from our australian office with all the exchange stuff setup. so I don't want to lose that except as a last resort. Any other ideas before I reset the thing?

Thank god someone else is having the same problem. I've never had a problem with XP and sync-ing but now trying to get the same mobile to sync on Vista is proving to be a real problem. Same issues, the computer recogmized it the first time, now all i get is USB device not recognized. If you have managed to overcome this problem please let me know.

yep problem all solved. Iny my case it was a firewall issue, once I disconnected from the net and switched of the firewall it recognised fine and kept doing so after I turned the firewall on again.

club imate has some stuff on this.
