Does any one know if it is possible to stop a windows mobile 5 device (apache) from generating a 'pop-up' window when a text comes in, and instead make the message sit in the background, or just in the inbox?

Tap Settings | Alarms and Notifications, change to Notifications tab and find the SMS notification in the list. Uncheck the "Display message on screen" and Bob's your uncle...
