Looking at converting to Nokia & WP8 - but came across some sites where people are complaining that mix radio on lumia branded devices doesn't work in their region - can anyone confirm if Mix Radio works in NZ?

Also will it work in NZ with a parallel imported Lumia from the UK or HK?

cheers

Nokia Music and Nokia Mix Radio aren't available in NZ

You would need to set your device and account up using a supported region

I don't have Nokia Music - it is also unavailable on the store.

Telecom Lumia 1020

from http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/nokia-music/f5874252-1f04-4c3f-a335-4fa3b7b85329

(Feature availability varies by country, which is determined from your SIM)

Sorry, this app isn’t available in your market.

Usual BS.

Thanks for that. I read some workarounds that get it to work temporarily, but it's a lot of hassle to have to constantly do this to get it to work.

How about Here drive/maps? do these work in NZ?

Am now thinking I will try the HTC 8X as a cheap way of testing if I like WP8 unless anyone else has any recommendations? - doesn't seem to be a lot of choice for WP8 devices. (shame I missed out on the $250 sale for the Ativ S) My recent phones have been androids: S2, S3, HOX, S4 but am getting a bit bored with android and especially the stutter I was still getting even with my S4. WP8 looks very smooth and consistant.

That's fine, Nokia Music isn't a service Nokia provide in NZ currently

Here Drive+ and Here Maps are included in Nokia WP8s but I don't think they work on other phones like the HTC 8X (I think Maps works but Drive+ isn't currently available IIRC)

Why don't you got for a low cost Nokia like a Lumia 520?

HTC 8S is about to go end-of-line, so get in quick. Personally, I think they are a great wee phone with one unforgiveable flaw - only 4GB of RAM. You can put in an SD card, but apps will only install to the inbuilt RAM, so you are very limited as to how many apps you can install.

The Nokia Lumia 625 is slightly dearer, but has 8GB (+sd card slot). Also has a bigger screen (same resolution) and comes in road-cone orange. And comes with all the Nokia apps.

Pandora Radio is free on all WP8 phones, although possibly only for a limited time.

Yeah I thought Drive+ was a Nokia exclusive until I saw this
http://winsupersite.com/windows-phone/nokia-drive-beta-free-turn-turn-navigation-all-windows-phone-8-users-eventually

and also found it as a free download in the NZ wp8 app store
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-nz/store/app/here-drive/31bbc68c-503e-4561-8d85-a294d54df06f

There are also a youtube clip confirming Drive+ running on the 8X as a free download.

Not interested in the 520 as it is to low end - the screen looks aweful, and the 8X doesn't cost much more.
