Would a proud owner of a N95 like to answer 2 questions for me...

(1) What is the display like in sunlight?

(2) Is there any firm confirmation that NZ Map will be improved soon?

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

There already is a post about the N95 but it won't answer your questions.

The display isn't too bad in bright sunlight because the sun can act as a back light.

I haven't heard of anything about the maps being improved but other people have.

I and the other people on the other N95 post believe that the maps may improve after the phone is officially released by Vodafone because in theory, no one should need good NZ maps yet because, once again, in theory, no one in NZ should have the phone so there would be no need for good maps. But of course people don't want to wait for Vodafone to get their act together so they are buying them from other places.

The American maps are excellent so when the maps are improved, they should be really good.

If you have anymore questions, just ask.

Can't beat the burble of that American V8. Ohh yea!

Re the maps, I guess these are street maps like Navman but what about "topo" maps, the sort of thiing you would use to navigate across open country ie trampers, hunters etc. Do you know if this type of map is available to install onto the phone?

Buying an imported handset isn't necessarily a case of being unable to wait for Vodafone to release the handset here. Vodafone's policy of crippling handsets such as the N95 with Live! firmware and removing features such as VoIP is a good reason to avoid a Vodafone branded handset.

The maps that I have seen don't have enough information for tramping although, if you go to "gps data", in Accessories, you can get your longitude, latitude, altitude, current ground speed. you can also set a trip distance thing which can measure the distance that you have traveled, give your max and average speed.

Is it possible to have the N95 (Orig Firmware) send out notifications of movement via SMS?

Like for each x km travelled or every x mins send out a location SMS.

Not that I know of.

This should hopefully have any information about the SMS thing but I haven't seen any options in my use of the phone to activate this kind of thing.
