N95 and VOIP

The previous topic was getting way too long so decded to start a new one on VOIP.
I have read all I can find on the subject including Fring and truphone but still not clear on things.

I use Skype on my PC which connects through a Wi-Fi home network but I hate being tied to the computer and wearing those geeky headphones. Can I set up the N95 to link over the Wi-Fi network and use Skype?

What options are there in NZ for using VOIP for calls without a pc?

There's no Skype client for Symbian device, yet. This has been promised and has been in the works for months now.

You can always use iSkoot.

Thanks for that. Claims for the likes of Fring etc say that calls are free but as they are sent over the data network I guess in NZ it could be quite expensive?

Or Fring which allows you to communicate with Live Messenger, Google Talk, SIP, or Skype.

It could do depending what plan you're on. If you have a Symbian device with WiFi you can of course use that rather than the 3G connection.

I've played with Fring a bit over the last few days using WiFi on my E65 and have been quite impressed.

That's the thing... People subscribe to a data service and pay a fixed amount per month for some data... Then these companies come around and say "Free SMS", when in fact they don't say you either are already paying for data, we will have to pay for data. You are not paying per message, of course, but the traffic is still counted.

Anything to sell their product...

I've played with Fring a bit over the last few days using WiFi on my E65 and have been quite impressed.

I can get Fring to operate with my Skype contacts (PC) but not with my Skype contacts (landline) with them it calls and then disconnects. Have you experienced that? What about SIP? any luck there? I would like to be able to use PoivY because of their free landline days.

I configured Fring to connect by my Asterisk box at home and it worked fine. I have no need to use Fring anyway since my E65 has SIP built in, I just installed it to briefly play with Skype.

Hi. I have a VoIP and N95 question. I have had a look on the Fring website and see that I am able to use this on my mobile without a WiFi connection. Sounds good to me but then I am assuming that I would be paying for data usage. Is this correct? On the Fring website is states fring consumes ~ 8MB for 60 min of mobile-VoIP call. I am guessing this means that for a 60 minute call I would be using 8MB data. Is that correct? If so does anyone know if this info is accurate, or them ust trying to sell their product? Do I need to purchase a number of use this?

And lastly I have checked on the iSkoot website but can't find the Nokia N95 listed. Has anyone used this successfully?
