Heyo, I don't know if this is the proper forum to ask this question, so slap me on the wrist if I am wrong :D

Anywho, I recently purchased a 520 off of TradeMe, kinda a nerve-wracking experience, but the student lifestyle mixed with my want for a decent phone directed me to this auction -- The previous owner mistook it to work on the Vodafone Network, so I assumed it was pretty much brand new.

The phone arrived yesterday, and had obviously been used by the prior owner, so I ran a factory reset on the phone (at this point, everything seemed to be a-ok). I messed around with it overnight, and this morning I headed to the Telecom Store to have my old sim (In an old LG) transferred to micro-sim.

At this point the Telecom employee placed the sim in my new phone, however, he hadn't turned off the phone before taking the battery out - I didn't think anything of it.

But when I left the store, the phone wouldn't turn on, which had me worried - the phone was over 50% last time I checked. I took it back home, then plugged it in, and the phone sprang to life, showing the charging screen with the red battery (My LG did this when it was completely drained). Okaaaaay, now this is weird, it's as if the dude at Telecom has discharged my battery. It has now sat on the charger for about an hour, and still sits in the same state.

So my question is in two parts:

One, does anyone know whats going on with my phone? Has anyone had similar problems and managed to get rid of them?

And Two, if it /is/ worst case scenario and the battery/phone is screwed, what do I do? Do I take it into Telecom and tell them that an employee looks to of broken my phone, or do I have to contact the seller of the TradeMe auction to look for the receipt (if any) and see if I can get a replacement? (I know when and where the phone was purchased (Dick Smiths) but there is no proof of this, and it's in Auckland (I'm in Wellington)). Are there any other (cheap) options of getting the phone fixed through Nokia?

Any help would be awweeeeesome. I'd prefer a non-spending route, but even now $200 is kinda a scary amount to lose.

Thanks.

Sounds like the phone isn't seeing the battery.

Check the battery is in the right way and in properly, also give the contacts a clean.

I've made sure it' in the right way, and the contacts look undamaged and clean. I'm living in a hall, but if I were to clean them, what is the best way to do this (see: Hall - No. 8 Wire mentality :D)? I do have 98% Isopropyl if that helps?

Sounds like a bogus excuse for the original owner ditching the phone, the 520 works on all NZ networks

If you go to www.nokia.co.nz you can request a service under warranty, you shouldn't even need the receipt. They should be able to tell its under warranty by the IMEI number. Plus the fact the phone wasn't even released over 12 months ago.

Only the Telecom version works with all 3 NZ networks. The Vodafone and 2Degrees version will not work on XT. Nokia made variants of it unfortunately.

I would recommend a hard reset and see how you go.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Try another charger, PC USB or another USB power device.

Try holding the power and Vol- buttons till the phone vibrates (@10 seconds). probably won't work, but worth a try.

This next one resets the phone to factory settings, so if there's anything important on there, don't do it.
Try Hold the power button till the phone vibrates. Next, hold the Vol- button till the phone displays an exclamation mark !, then in order and one at a time, Vol+, Vol-, Power, Vol-

I suppose I should put some closure to this thread.

So I managed to have the phone turned on, it turned out to be that the battery was loose and the connection wasn't entirely made, which was why it wasn't charging. I emailed away to the guy talking about the problem, and he apologised - he didn't know about the phone networks properly, so when I explained it, he offered to take it back, which was what I did, and he paid me back. I couldn't be bothered dealing with warranty and stuff, so I left it up to him, and this morning went out and brought a brand new one.

Never buying off TradeMe for phones again. Thanks for the help, guys.
