I'm investigating updating and/or adding some business information to ensure mobile devices searching for information will be able to find it. Which mapping solution do Windows Phone devices use? I assume they use the Nokia Maps solution, right?

Where are the Bing Maps/Microsoft Maps used? Windows 8 tablets? Do they use the same place and location data as Nokia Maps? I have seen Bing Places which is unavailable for locations outside the US/UK and other select regions.

"Last year, Microsoft announced a strategic partnership with Nokia in Mapping. Our two companies have spent a lot of time working together, sharing information and investigating better ways provide relevant mapping information to help you find and get to where you’re going more quickly. Today, we’re excited to announce another important phase in that partnership with the launch of Nokia powered traffic results, which are rolling out today in 24 countries on Bing Maps"

Nokia own NAVTEQ:

NAVTEQ partners with third-party agencies and companies to provide its services for portable GPS devices made by Garmin, Lowrance, NDrive and web-based applications such as Yahoo! Maps, Bing Maps, Nokia Maps, and MapQuest.

Microsoft licenses Nokia's Here Mapping data for use within their various ecosystems, including Bing on PC and Phone.

Here Maps is preinstalled on all Nokia Lumia handsets and is available as a download for other Windows Phone 8 manufacturers.

Excellent, I assume, then, if I register and verify ownership of businesses via the Here.com site any changes I make will (eventually) filter through the ecosystems Here.com supplies data to including Nokia/WP/Bing and so forth.

Slightly, OT question. Do Apple license data from the Here.com service for their Maps application or is it all in house?

Cool, I don't know if I can be bothered trying to figure out how to add listings to TomTom (or if it is even possible). I think Apple integrate with Yelp so listings that might have to suffice. :)

Correct. The Here team curates the data and then offers it as part of the whole package. The likes of Bing can still add their own data overlay to their own assets, but they will work off a base Here provides.

You can use http://primeplaces.here.com/ to claim ownership of your business which allows you to also curate the Here ecosystem also.
