I just cannot connect to the Web with TH-55 and Bluetooth phone

Please help me here people.

I cannot connect to the web with my bluetooth phone; it is a Nokia 3650.

I have paired up my phone with my TH-55; they communicate no problem. When I try to connect via GPRS, the TH-55 is able to connect to my phone and dial out, but then that's where the problems begin. The error message I get on my Clie is "PPP Timeout (0x1231)".

Nothing is working, not even o2 in the UK can help me!

This is really beginning to bug me, as I would like to pick up my email when I'm on the move. I am able to connect from my Clie to my wifes Sony-Ericsson Z600.
Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Thanks

Are you able to install a browser on your 3650 and try opening a page from there? Does it work? If yes, then you have a good GPRS connection. In this case the problem lies on the Sony Clie configuration.

Are you using the correct number *99#? Do you need to specify a CID (like *99***1#)? Do you have the correct APN in this configuration?

Thank you Mauricio. I haven't used a browser on my 3650.

Pardon my stupidity, what is an APN?

Thanks

It's the name of an Access Point, which is configured on your mobile phone to indicate where the mobile will connect to the GPRS network. It's mobile network dependant. If you can access http on your phone then it's ok there.

I found an app called WebToGo which has solved this problem for me. It also helps me to configure emails.

At £19 I think it could be a good investment as I was thinking of changing phone network if I couldn't get this sorted.

My APN setting in my phone is correct. Thanks for the explanation.

Go to the 02 site and try to find the proper settings for your 3650. You might want to check this out too: http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,5184,5303,00.html

I have had the same miserable problem connecting my new Zire 72 to my Nokia 3650 recently, but relied on old info I got back in early October to connect my Clie NX70 and it still works. I have T-Mobile here in the U.S. and this is what worked for me:

1. Select Prefs>Connection
Create a new connection profile called Tmobile (02).
On the first screen:
Connect To: Local Network
Via: Cradle/Cradle

Tap on Details...
Speed: 57,600 bps
Flow Ctl: Automatic

2. Select Prefs>Network.
On the first screen:
Service: Tmobile (or 02 or whatever)
User Name: a (any character doesn't matter)
Password: a (any character doesn't matter)
Connection: bluetooth tmobile (02)

Tap on Details...
Connection Type: PPP
Idle Timeout: 3 minutes
Query DNS -- checked
IP Address -- checked (Automatic)

Tap on Script... (change your wap address to whatever 02 is using!!!)
Send: at+cgdcont=1,"ip","wap.voicestream.com"
Send CR:
Send: atd*99***1#
Send CR:
Wait For: CONNECT
End:

Tap OK, OK, Connect

I don't know why this worked but it does. I have ZERO idea what these connect commands do (Send control return??) but it worked on my Clie way back in September and I just reused it on my Palm Zire 72 and it connects fine. I'm not sure what you have on your phone but here's what I have:

Menu>Tools>Settings>Connection>Access Points
Connection, mms, T-mobile Internet, t-zones (their WAP service).
I don't subscribe to T-mobile Internet because their cheaper t-zones service provides exactly the same capabilities (some badly kept secret). Apparently T-mobile's servers cannot distinguish between http requests to access wap sites versus html sites.

Anyway, under t-zones, it says: data bearer: GPRS, Access point name: wap.voicestream.com, user name: nokia, Prompt Password: no, Password: **** (no idea!), Authentication: Normal, Gateway IP Address: 216.155.165.50, Homepage: http://wap.myvoicestream.com, Connection Security: Off, Session Mode: Permanent
