so every time my phone is turned off and on again, the time resets back to 2013. any way to fix that?

i have a nokia lumia 625.

i don't turn my phone off, usually this only happens if the battery goes flat or the phone just randomly decides to restart (like it did today)

its just annoying cause if i dont notice it and i get a text while the date and time are a year out, the texts disappear into the abyss and i have to ask for the person to resend it.

IIRC, Windows Phone relies on the network for time.  I think in NZ only Telecom have time sync enabled on their cellular network.

Even if Network Time is not available Windows Phone devices will continue to keep the clock accurate, like any other smartphone. and like any other device Network time sync is optional.

It sounds like a fault. I'd try a hard reset and if it doesn't work then perhaps send for evaluation/repair as it sounds like power is not flowing if the device is off.

How are you powering the device off?

If the power/lock key on the 625 is held down for more than 8 seconds it performs a soft reset, this in turn resets the time/date.

This is slightly different to other Lumia handsets where the soft reset is done using the Volume Down+Power key for 8 seconds.

To power your handset off normally, hold down the power/lock key for 2 seconds then slide down on the screen

If the device does completely get drained and sits in this state it will reset the time back to Sept 2012 IIRC

as Brent mentions it sounds like a soft reset is happening in your case though

It could still be the power button was pressed for 8 secs hence that's why you feel it vibrates followed by restart

hmm could be, it would be nice if it could sync with the same server computers do, like time.windows.com
