Hi

I am allowed to get a Nokia 1020 as a work phone.. but... it must run onthe Vodafone network
It needs to be purchased from a 'reputable' dealer (like Noel Leemings ec) - question i have is that as these are all XT phones, can one be unlocked to run on the Vodafone network and if so, are there any issues with receiving updates?

The 1020 sold locally is not locked, does support all the required bands for the Vodafone network, and will continue to get OTA updates as they are approved by Telecom/Spark. :)

Not sure how the updates work exactly. Even though the phone is connected to the vodafone network it will receive the OTA updates from telecom. So something in the phone still points/marks it as a telecom phone in that regard?

Any update will come directly from Nokia or Microsoft to the phone. It doesn't matter what network you're on, you could in fact be on an overseas network. However the delivery timing of any update on a Telecom phone is reliant on when Telecom/Nokia/Microsoft ok the update for release.

The software build on the device is Telecom's, so the updates have to be approved by Telecom before they roll out for that variant. The same is true of virtually all devices, the network they're connected to doesn't make a difference to the update process.

Just confirming, I have a 1020 purchased directly from a telecom store running on a Vodafone sim. I've had less issues with it than with my lumia 800 that was purchased from Vodafone.

There was an issue with the mms settings that took a while to get fixed. I think it was a screw-up on nokia's part with their app for switching telephone companies.

Exactly. My point was that the Lumia 1020 purchased from telecom was working as well if not better for me that the 800 purchased from Vodafone and I'm using them both on the Vodafone network. I wasn't trying to say that the Lumia 800 was bad (it wasn't.. it was a great phone) but that the 1020 would work fine.
