I've looked in to it a little.  It runs the following radio's.  There is an unlocked one on ebay.  It looks very like the new Lumia 930 but available now and not quite as big.  The 20Mb camera looks just as good as my 1020 but without being so in the way.

Thanks,

The guys at the Telcom store weren't so sure, they said Verizon only use WCDMA and use GSM for roaming so even if it has the right radio's and is unlocked it may still not work.

Now I need to decide if I want to take the gamble.

Lumia 928 on Verizon works fine in NZ. GSM is unlocked on that model.

GSM (2G) and WCDMA/HSDPA (3G) are different things. Also WCDMA and CDMA are different.

Telecom uses WCDMA. Are you sure the Telecom salesperson didn't say "CDMA"? Because if this person said "WCDMA" then they have no idea what they're talking about, as Telecom runs a WCDMA network for 3G.

Yes, Verizon is mainly a CDMA network mainly. But if the device is unlocked it should work. I still wouldn't buy one though. If buying something from USA would be more comfortable with one that comes from a WCDMA/HSDPA network instead of a CDMA one.
