Hi all,

I have FS Loox 720 Pocket PC, desktop PC with Win XP SP2 running and Match USB card-reader w/Bluetooth dongle integrated.

I can surf web through Bluetooth ActiveSync, transfer files, all that stuff.. but when I try to access shared folders on my PC, I get a strange error. I establish PAN connection, both PC and PPC get own IP, but they both can't ping each other.

I have switched off all firewalls and antivirus (in fact, i haven't got any except windows firewall), and I use Widcomm stack.

here are settings that I use:

PC:

Network Access Service : Allow other devices to create a private network with this computer

Bluetooth Network Adapter:
IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: left blank
DNS: left blank

PPC:
IP: server-assigned
DNS: left blank

Normally after establishing connection my PPC gets IP like 192.168.0.xxx
I use vxUtils to look at PPC "ipconfig" and that's what is says:

IP Adress: 192.168.0.126 (for example)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1
DCHP Server: 192.168.0.1

When I try to lookup IP of my PC by entering its hostname on PPC (by vxUtils), it says that PC IP is 192.168.0.1 and if my PC is connected to Internet it even finds that second IP too.

But when I try to ping my PC (by IP or hostname) it is "request timeout", same on the other side.

I've read all bluetooth guides and I still can't understand, where is my fault. But I feel that I'm very close to solution..

What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Also, make sure to configure the DNS addresses as your ISP's DNS, unless you are really running a DNS server on your PC. And change the gateway to either be your router or the ISP provided gateway.

Thanks for your reply, but it didn't work.

In fact, I just don't understand, why should I enter DNS adress of my ISP. I'm not talking about Internet sharing (I can do that through ActiveSync), I just want to browse shared folders on my PC from PPC (e.g. playing mp3 files from PC on PPC without downloading them, smth like that).

Of course I'm not running DNS server on my PC, I don't have any routers, because I use ADSL modem to connect to Internet. Is it impossible to establish a simple private network between Pocket PC and PC without any bridges to LAN/Internet\etc. just to share some folders on PC?

And yes, I've tried Resco Explorer and it didn't work. There is nothing in My Network folder and when I try to Map Drive (by IP or hostname) it says that network resource cannot be found or I don't have a permission. That's why I started to use vxUtil and realized that none of PC or PPC can ping each other. (Again, no firewalls running)

What's the problem? Maybe, I forgot to check something?
Thanks in advance.

Have you ever had any firewall running? Zone Alarm and Norton Internet Security still block applications even when disabled - they only stop when completely removed.

Also, make sure the File and Printer Sharing is enabled on your PC, for each network adapter.

Entering the correct DNS and gateway is just a way to prevent any other problems interfering with this.

Seems to me that I'm the only guy with such a trouble) None of suggestions worked..
I've never run any firewalls on this PC (btw I've just reinstalled Win XP SP2) maybe SP2 is a problem?

Anyway, I've just bought Netgear wireless ADSL router, no problems since that, it all works as I expected. Shared folders, Internet sharing, etc.. I can surf even in the bathroom, could I dream of that with bluetooth! 8)

Probably that was broken cables, magnetic fields, sun storms, smth like that..

Nevertheless, thanks for your attention!
