alas i lost my wallet in Oregon, and coudln't buy the shiny gadget i wanted for my birthday.

So, now, back in Aotearoa, who has these gadgets for sale?

furthermore, anyone already own one? what you reckon?

ah, you're right.
I wonder what the hold up is.. announcing it and then not shipping is bad form -- the hype has died by the time you ship.

Companies do it all the time. I-mate announced their "Ultimate" series of Windows Mobile devices back in February, not available until October. Apple announced the iPhone in January, not available until June, and so on... It's a pain.
