I see LG have taken over WebOS earlier this year. They have already released TV's running WebOS and have hinted that other devices will also be released with WebOS.

Will we be seeing any new WebOS phones?

I doubt it. It's been highly customised for the big screen experience.

OT: I really wish the tv market wasnt so framented with different OSs for every tv manufacturer, same issue we had with phones before android. if they just all switched to android (sony have some I believe) it would make the app development so much easier. google tv never took off...

Sorry cannot agree. Unfortunately Android isn't the B all and end all. Why not all iOS or all Windows for that matter? iOS already as plenty of apps.

Agreed it was highly customised but no reason why LG couldn't have still used the original WebOS in the original or modified form for mobile devices.

Until I read the article Paul has linked I thought it was highly probable we might see LG mobiles devices running WebOS. That's what happens when egos and cultural differences get in the way. One fortunate thing was that by happy (or unhappy) circumstance they were able to get one iteration out into the market to show what might have been.

What a waste of an excellent OS. It would have been better if it had never ended up in LG's hands.

well i can install android on any number of devices already, I cannot install iOS on any devices over than iphone/ipod/ipad, so yeah pretty huge limitation there. windows phone os has the licensing issue. just look at market share, android is king, and its free.

Android is not fragmented either is it? Tell me it's not.

I didn't realise your comment was about you personally installing the OS. My comment was about a TV manufacturer installing the OS. I'm sure they could over come any licence issues. I've got a pico projector running a cut down version of Windows.

As I said the world doesn't start and end with Android.
