CorePlayer (formerly BetaPlayer) is the best video player I've ever seen. I used to have it on my iPaq and it was smooooth.
It's being released for Synbian 60 v3 on the 29th of August (probably US time). [edit] now released.

Betaplayer used to be free, but I think they'll charge for this

It will be worth it though! Much better than the RealPlayer that comes installed on the N95.

Here's an update by Betaboy no the file types it can play -

A1:AUDIO: MP3, MP2, AAC, H.263, WAV, OGG, Speex, WAVPACK, FLAC, MPC, TTA, AMR, ADPCM, ALaw, MuLaw, Midi
A2:Video: H.264 (CoreAVC), MPEG-1, MPEG-4 part 2 (ASP), DivX, XviD, Theora, Dirac, VP3, MJPEG, NRE, MSVIDEO1, and FLV*
*The FLV container for Flash video is supported in CorePlayer Mobile however not available in our consumer version and only available to OEM's if they have a Flash license directly from Adobe.

Looks good, been using divx player and divx converter with my N95 which is vastly better quality than the nokia video manager + inbuilt player

CorePlayer for Symbian is now for sale.

I just bought it, downloaded and installed and yes, it has to be the best player out there on any platform, I'd say.
I've tried playing a divx avi and an mp4 movie and they both play well with no skipping or jerking.
Mp3 and aac also played well.

A nice thing is that it has multiple levels of zoom - Best Fit, Fill Screen, Stretch to Screen, Fit +10%, Fit + 20%, Fit + 30%, 50%, 100%, 150%, 200.
It also has many Aspect ratios you can view the video in - Auto, Square, 4:3 Screen, 4:3 NTSC, 4:3 PAL, 16:9 Screen, 16:9 NTSC, 16:9 PAL.

You can change orientation to left handed, right handed, upside down, or whatever you like.
You can jump chapters, and even change the playing speed.

If you liked SmartMovie - you'll like this (according to the Core site, SmartMovie 'borrowed' parts of the CorePlayer).

BTW... We stopped 'Smart Movie'
from being sold as it was 'allegedly' ripping our IP off by
distributing our open source GPL licensed ASP decoder from TCPMP.

It's well worth getting if you want to view just about any video format and many audio formats.

And i'd ripped some useful stuff from smartmovie. I have been using an beta of it for a while and it's superb, it was the one thing i'd been really missing from my WindowsMobile pocketpc.

If anyone needs or wants the .aac decoder (which supports aac+he also) for the Windows mobile version, feel free to ask (it was removed from that version due to to copyright)

I haven't tested, but I think it should play anything? Theoretically you could just dump a divx file onto your card and play it.
The higher resolution would be good for TV Out for watching on a normal TV screen but would take up more memory on your card.
Paradoxsm probably knows better than I, though; or you could ask betaboy on the official forum HERE

btw, for recoding large movie files to a more manageable size for the Nokia, it's worth getting the program Lathe from HERE. Price is only $7.95 US.
It does PSP and iPod and various other formats as well. It lets you choose the device you want to encode to.
It doesn't have a preset for the N95, so I used the one for the Nokia 7710 and it looked good.
You can customize the screen size or crop etc.

If you want a free one, try the Pocket DivX Encoder (practically by the same guys as Lathe but might not have as many presets).

How do you go about entering the activation code? I enter the first group of 6 alphanumeric then cant enter anything more (N95)

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Yes, I had that problem, too!!

The 'down' directional-key will advance to next set of numbers.

Also, it loks like there should be three sets of numbers between the hyphens on the top line, but it turns out to be two sets, then two on the next line etc - just keep on pressing the down key between sets and it's fine.

upsilon, someone just posted on the CoreCodec forum that a video they had wouldn't play properly on the N95.
The maker of the program responded that it was too big -

No wonder the N95 choked!! The video you sent me is 640x480 30fps mpeg4 video with 48khz aac. So... not broken at all ;-) Try encoding something more like 320x240 and bring the bitrates down.

In other words, yes, you probably will have to recode a movie to bring it down to a manageable size for the N95.

Ah right, that's what i've been currently doing using Divx converter and divx player mobile. Works well with the presets in the converter, excellent quality.

Seeing as there is no trial for CorePlayer i think i might stick to divx for a while.
