I hear Telecom is bringing out the HTC Titan as a replacement for the Apache next week.

Is this all top secret or is it common knowledge? I can't find any discussions on it.

Anyone have any details on the actual spec for NZ?

I had heard the Titan was next (we'd been told August, but obviously that was wrong).
Would have thought that the Mogul was more likely as TNZ usually gets the same gear as Sprint. Both pretty similar I guess.

I heard lots of things, but as it is now I am yet to receive any information about devices coming up next...

Same thing, Titan is just the HTC codename which Telecom use as their names. Mogul is what Sprint called their Titan

I should know but have not heard a peep. Hopefully it's true as it looks a nice device. I never liked the Apache, too thick and cheaply made.

I have had a play with the GSM version of this device (mogal imported hong kong) and I liked it very much, having had a harrier, apache and treo I note some good changes. No external antenna, very light, fits in the hand very nicely & I really liked the thumb wheel. As for release date it seems to have been pushed back time & time again however the grapevine indicates that it might finally arrive early september. Cant wait.

There are plenty of US carriers with WM6 ROMs available. Word is that Telecom were shipping it with WM6 on a CD

Titan looks good, esp. with no aerial sticking out.

Its more than just a rumour, but Telecom are tight lipped with info for commercial sensitivity reasons. Discussion here usually gets going with a bang the day before a handset hits the stores, so watch this space...

Went in to local Telecom Store on Thursay to request info, was told to wait 2 weeks, the guy called back on Friday to say WM5 and costs $1399....WHAT THE ****?. Anyway had already called telecom in CHCH earlier on Friday, was told WM6 and approx $1199. I know very little about Smart Phones but if this device is the 6800 as presumed then why would they put WM5 on it, everywhere else in the world the 6800 has WM6, how does this work guys?? As a side note Sprint offer this device for US $300=NZ$427, are we ripped off or what?

Sprint also probably sells this device in a contract as well...

The guy's right regarding OS, and your reaction is right too...

Although I'm 40ish and a VBNet developer I'm a complete newb to these kind of devices, I was under the impression that these devices are completely setup overseas somewhere to client specs, if this assumption(dangerous) is correct then why would Telecom get WM5 instead of 6, cost?. I've been asked to port over a desktop app for mobile, need to use Telecom for coverage in the Nelson area and thought this device to be best available. Any advice appreciated.

I believe Telecom add their own code to the devices when they bring them in to NZ, so I assume it will be easier to do mods to WM5 as they have already done similar for the Apache. It is a shame though as I would have liked to have WM6.

Porting a desktop app to mobile is more about getting the functionality to work in the best way for a mobile user rather than picking a device. But having said that, as a portable device the Apache was great, so I'm expecting this to be even better. I found the slide out keyboard with decent sized keys is a big advantage over other devices.
