Any updates for when the 535 will be available via "official" channels in NZ ?

Do I save my breath or save my Xmas pennies ?

I see a local import shop is selling them (dont know if I believe their "in stock" comment though).

its not available this week, none of the telcos have announced this.  You would have to parallel import.
