Possibly a very dumb question...

Trying to install software onto my new h2210. Take, for example, Palm Reader or RealPlayer. I run the .exe file, and ActiveSync Add/Remove comes up, does its thing and installs. No Problem.
I run the .exe for, SpaceTrader, say. Agree to the terms, finish, I see a .tmp file appear in the directory where I ran the .exe, which then goes away again, but, no instally! No activesync popup, nothing.

Do I have to run the .exe from a particular location or something? I assume it would just go onto the device, but, not that I can see.

Also, is there a way to create "shortcuts" in menus to link to other programs? Or can you move shortcuts around?

Perhaps the .exe only extracted a .cab file to your \My Documents folder? Check if there's a .cab file there. If you tap this file it'll install the software.

You can create shortcuts for any file. Open File Explorer, find the file you want, tap and hold. Select Copy. Then move to the destination folder you want to create the shortcut and tap and hold. Select Past as Shortcut.

Icons on the start menu are stored as shortcuts on \Windows\Start Menu, and icons on Programs are stored on \Windows\Start Menu\Programs on your Pocket PC.

Thanks for the shortcuts info.

As for the install, no, there's nothing in the My Documents, or the subfolders thereof. I see no action, no progress bars, no thinging on either the PC or the ipaq, the PC just kind of thinks a bit, then stops.
I should say this is on Standard partnership. I did manage to get nethack installed on Guest yesterday (had the unit delivered to work so I could play with it before updating the ROM), but can't get nethack to install again.
Very odd I thought, considering other software installs fine...

Another question, can you move an installed program to another storage location, or do you have to remove/reinstall?

You have to remove and install the program again. I'll have a think about the install and post later...

Thanks for that.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is reinstalling activesync. I'll give that a go once I get home tonight.

Thanks again for your help.

No luck reinstalling activesync, or clearing the device...

OK. I looked through folders last night and found that a folder is created under activesync on the PC with the .cab file and setup.ini file in it. Now, while it exists, ActiveSync doesn't actually pick up on the fact that it does. I can drag those folder to the device and tap on the .cab to install, no problem.
I tried this on another PC as well (one without USB, unfortunately), and it comes up with the correct dialog and queus it for sync.

So it's not the PDA and it's not activesync, it specific to the PC it's installed on...which is in desperate need of a reload.

At least I don't feel so silly now!!
