I have just bought a smartphone 2. Its working brilliantly except for one thing. I bought a 128MB SD card (Kingston Technology) but the phone cannot write to it. If I write to the card in my laptop, its fine but in the phone its read only.

When using the camera, it states that there is insuffiecient memory to save. Even Media Player cannot transfer to teh card if teh card is in the phone but it works fine when in the sd drive in my laptop.

Any suggestions?

Are you able to format the card on your laptop? If not, try another brand.

I can format the card in both Fat and Fat 32 on the laptop. The message I get when trying to write to the card from the camera is "Unable to save the captured image - invalid path" .

Also, the camera indicates that there are 0 available space on the card.

The properties list in the file manager on the phone is as follows:

Type: Removable Storage
Location: \
Size : 0 bytes
Contains 0 Folders / 0 Files
Created 1/2/98 00:00 AM (Seems a bit odd?)
Under attributes, Directory and Temporary are ticked (read only is definetly not ticked!!)

I cannot acces the card here, create a new folder or anything. Its read only.

Anything else I can try?

I might go back to Vodafone and try another unit

I think you should test it in another phone, as you suggest. It sounds like a faulty SD/IO slot?

Well, I went back to Vodafone and tried the sd card in another i-mate. It just locked the phone up!!. Then another helpful staff member said that they recalled that the tech guy had sent an email through....something about sd card sizes in the smartphone. So we tried an 8mb card which worked brilliantly. Vodaphone are going to get the tech guy to give me a call.

Anyone else use a card and what sizes seem to work ok? Anyone want to buy a 128?

Don't blame on the Smartphone2 yet. I'm not sure about this story of cards and Smartphone2 limits. I have two cards (Compaq 128MB and Sandisk 256MB) and both work ok on my i-mate Smartphone2.

Perhaps you could try a different card brand on your phone?

I heard from Carrier who pointed me to the Kingston Website. The imate is a certified device so they suggested a card problem. I got hold of a Simpletech SDcard out of an IPAQ which works perfectly. The IPAQ also said that it couldnt format the Kingston card. Problem solved. Kingston goes back to the shop. Thanks for your suggestions
