Just like any good mobile device, my PDA winds down (backlight goes off after 1 minute, screen completely goes off after 3 minutes) when I'm not touching the screen or buttons.

It's fine except when I'm talking to someone on it for more than about 5-10 minutes: either a) screen goes completely off and I lose the call or b) screen darkens and I can't hear the other person any longer (nor can they hear me) although in fact the connection is still live and once e.g. press some random button such as volume all is well again (for a few minutes).

Is it WM5, XDA, both or something else?

It is really strange - it shouldn't do this. I am afraid of suggesting it, but have you tried a hard reset?

Yikes ... I like 99% of your advice Mauricio but that gives me the willies!  Does it mean you haven't got any milder ideas?

I'll give it a go when I've got several spare hours to reinstall the dozen or so programmes and worse the many dozens of settings I've altered during my two months with it.  If only all the programmes were backed up like Palm OS ... hard resets on my Clie T665C used to just mean I had to leave it in the Hotsync cradle for an extra half hour.

Meanwhile will keep pressing the volume button to keep the screen active.

PS - what is your green icon meant to signify?  I'm yet to receive a reply from you without one.

PPS - thanks for enabling the toolbar in Opera Smile

Hmm seems to have spontaneously resolved.  Perhaps it was overheating in the aircraft-grade aluminium case ... (which was also interfering with the reception so I often take it out when it's in my cradle at home)
