Hi,
I am looking at getting a N95 hopefully tommrrow but want to know if the N95 brought from the Vodafone shop has that terrible Vodafone live main phone menu, in which everything is black and red or is it the original nokia phone menus??

Yes it does but that is just the default theme. If you don't like it just go into the phone menu and settings and change the theme there are a few standard Nokia themes that look nice!

Thanks for the reply.

Would you recommend purchasing from a Vodafon store or from Parallel imported.co.nz

I have heard conflicting stories thats all......

Since the price drop occurred there isn't really much of a difference in price now between the Parallel Importers and Vodafone, so go Vodafone for the Warranty.

As already mentioned you can change the theme, you can also debrand (make sure to make a note of the Vodafone Product Code though for warranty purposes) the phone in order to get rid of the horrible Vodafone shortcuts.

For only a little more you can pick up the N95 8GB from overseas though, something worth thinking about. . .

I finally got one after going to 8 differnt stores today.

Only problem is I was over charged and kind of tricked into buying a 2GB Mem card.

From power store, they said they had one so I was so happy to know i could get my hands on it today.......I asked to also sign up to a Txter plan he said I'll have to sort that at the voda store - which i found a bit strange I emntioned that I should be getting a discount for signing up to a 24 Month contract - but he said that did not apply

Well it did

and he said the phone did not come with a Memory card at all so I forked out $100 for a 2GB

It was kinda my fault for not researching it as well.
ALSO  he said it was brand new..........................Then why did it have ph numbers for landlords and other people I have never heard of?/

Fantastic phone though.
Connected straight to the Wireless
Downloaded Gmail app.

Looking for an Instant messaging App if anyone has any ideas

Ouch, I feel your pain on the 2GB card (get a 6Gb for around that price). Chalk it up to experience.

Theres loads of IM programs around - check out some of the other forums to get some ideas about software:

Try PCwise.co.nz in Torbay, they are cheaper than anywhere I've found and they sell real vodafone phones without the need to sign up to a plan, my phone had a volume button fault from out of the box and was returned with no dramas at all.
I think mine was $850

If you're after a Windows Live! (MSN) client the best option is the Microsoft one. Did you end up buying a Vodafone branded phone or parallel import? If it's an import running the Nokia firmware you will be able to get this from the download menu.

Vodafone branded handsets are not restricted here like many other countries so there is no worry, you can pretty much remove the Vodafone live stuff if you wish.

Windows LIVE has very good support for Symbian now even to the point of integrating to the actual messaging client, It's actually very similar to the version as per the Windows mobile versions.

If it's got numbers in it already then it doesn't sound like its brand new. Could be a returned phone. Might want to be careful there and make sure your warranty starts from the date you bought it in case there's any problems with it.

I called Powerstore the next day and spoke to the salesman I dealt with the day before.

I advised him when I got the phone, which I specifically asked if it was brand new - not a return, So I told him, there were texts in the inbox, there were photo's in the memory, and phone numbers in the address book.

He replied with....ohhhh really?

He then said "oh well i'll give you $40.00 off the phone."

I just said no. I want a brand new one. for warranty and battery purposes.

He said OK and it will hopefully be in sometime next week, I still have the old Nokia here sitting in the box.

I have a related problem, i've just ordered the n95 8gb and should be getting it next week sometime, as this phone hasen't even got a vodafone nz firmware released is it still possible to get vodafone live seup on it? I can remember you can send wap settings via the vodafone website, does this set it up? I'd have to use n95-1 wap settings but they should be the exact same.
