My daughter dropped her Lumia 620 the other day and cracked the screen. Being a penny pinching high school student, she's after a cheap way to get this fixed. Does anyone have recommendations of value for money repairers in Auckland that may be able to help?

One of the places I reached out to quoted $170-$340. Considering the phone cost us < $200, that seems a wee bit over the top.

I suspect you might have a hard time finding anywhere that will fix it for less than you can get something similar new - they often seem to be on pretty good sales.  (e.g. Lumia 530 currently on sale for $70 at warehouse? Or keep an eye out for sales on 635?)

I've found one place that has quoted $100-$150. Thats the cheapest I've found, but is still too rich for my daughter's budget.

I suspect you're right about it being more cost effective for her to get another phone. I also have a spare 610 that she can probably use (if she asks her sister really, really nicely :-)).

Have you considered looking for the part on ebay and finding a repair guide on youtube/google?

I have. Will have to talk to my daughter about that, and see if she is happy with an operation that I can't guarantee the patient will survive ;-)

$140 including GST. But thanks for the suggestion anyway, BrentR.

Spoke to my daughter (she's just returned from a few days away). She has decided she wants to take a punt on a second hand Lumia on TradeMe. If she can get one for around $80, she'll be happy. Especially if it means a slight upgrade in the process.

If not, she'll consider a screen repair at $100. Looking at the damage, I think it's only the screen/digitizer that needs replacing. And the quote of $100 is from a place I've used before, and was happy with their service and quality of work.

In the mean time, she's slumming it with her sister's old 610. "No front camera! OMG! How do I selfie?". I would lend her my One X, but I'd be a wee bit miffed if it suffered the same fate as her current phone. That, and the wifi is pretty naff on that phone.

It's a pity you didn't put this post up yesterday.  I've just sold my Lumia 720 with 32GB uSD card on Trade Me for $100.

Stink :-(

If any other Geekzoners have one to sell, feel free to send me an offer.

Cunning plan thwarted. The 635 she had her eye on doesn't have a front camera. Apparently that's a deal breaker

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks. But she's currently working with a $100 budget. Those are probably far too rich for her blood :-)
