I have a Dopod 838pro but can't get to vodafone Live! no matter what, I just get the page not found thing.
I'm using the url http://live.vodafone.com but no luck - I'm not sure if this is correct.
I can browse any other website, just not the vodafone live! website.
the phone is parrallel imported, but I see vodafone are selling this model thru their website.
I'd really like to do the skytv thing, but this requires being able to get the Live! I believe.
I've contacted Vodafone, and they said they would raise a helpdesk ticket or something, but nobody ever returned my call.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Older Windows Mobile devices cannot access Vodafone live services because they're not compatible.

The only device that currently supports Vodaone live! is the new Palm Treo 500v.

Vodafone live is not a website its a WAP site,

Vodafone NZ does not support imported handsets, If you want Vodafone live services you have to purchase a handset that is approved by Vodafone NZ and tested,

You are on your own sorry as issue is not related to Vodafone NZ but you using a imprted device!

Vodafone live! doesn't work on any Windows Mobile device (except the Treo 500v), even the ones approved by Vodafone. The same applies to some Symbian devices.

This is regardless of being parallel imported or not.

hmm, it's not that old. It's identical to a jasjam - 3G broadband, and the jasjam can do it...
check this out http://store.vodafone.co.nz/mobile_details_summary.aspx?ptrecno=2925 it says the jasjam with windows mobile can access this feature (look under entertainment)...

Hmmm. I think that is a mistake.

But have in mind, even if the Jasjam works, it is specially configured for Vodafone New Zealand, while the Dopod is not...

Its never going to work on Vodafone live as the handset is a import not vodafone live tested or approved. End of story

You don't purchase a smart phone to browse WAP sites, If you want Vodafone live purchase a tested and approved handset its that simple.

the dopod 838pro is listed under the wireless configuration portal at vodafone, so they must have tested it at some stage. I know some parallel imports work with vodafone live and some dont. I guess this one doesn't. I think it's a Rom thing personally. Anyway - I'm not actually that fussed on vodafone live!, I just want to watch sky tv on my mobile. Can this be done without accessing vodafone live?

I have JasJam with Vodafone NZ rom and I can tell you that, there is no Vodafone Live! on it, or on any Windows Mobile devices that Vodafone NZ currently carries (except Vodafone branded WM Smartphone and the one Mauricio mentioned). Also, even IF you do managed to get your Dopod to work on Vodafone Live! You still cannot get Vodafone Live! 3G (for Sky mobile TV) as you have not got the Vodafone NZ ROM with the specific DRM to play it.

In short, if using non-sanctioned GSM devices on Vodafone NZ network, you'll have limited features or services.

Personally, if you are aware of these limitation, and live by without them, it is definitely a good bargain to get GSM devices from outside of NZ, just don't come crying at Vodafone NZ expecting help when something isn't working as you expected.

Thanks for that, yeah the mobile was good value, and it has a lot of capabilities for a mobile thats for sure. Overall I'm very happy with it, although I would like to get skytv just for the geek factor. I use it to receive all my work emails just like a blackberry - I highly recommend emoze (it gets around an annoying certificate issue I have with the standard exchange server web client on WM6.

Thanks for all the reply's to my post everyone, your feedback was valuable - I can now forget about Live! and move on.

Cheers!

Do you use Exchange? I don't have issue with Exchange and WM5 on JasJam, I had difficulty trying to get the SSL certificate then I realised I don't need to have that, so I just went ahead without the use of SSL.

Also, if you want to try Sky TV mobile, just go into a Vodafone store and ask for a demonstration on one of their VLive! 3G unit, I'll tell you though, it's just a gimick, nothing special... that's how I laid the Vlive! on Jasjam on the coffin bed... nothing Wow or too awesome.

You certainly can't get the full vodafone Live experience on a non vodafone live handset.

However, you can configure it to give you a partial experience. I know I configured my Nokia 6230 to do it in NZ, and it was an imported Hong Kong one.

You can configure your handset to access the free parts of Vodafone Live, However it falls over if you try to subscribe to anything.

Similarly, I own an HTC P3600i here in Australia. This is also known as basically a Dopod D810 elsewhere. I have it configured to access Vodafone Live in Australia in the same way as I did in NZ, and it works, with the same issue that you can't subscribe to anything. So you can read the free news headlines etc.

I've looked around the internet on this one, and I believe that Vodafone checks the HTTP request headers on the phone attached web browser. I've heard people get the full vodafone live experience by changing the device settings in the headers to send the http request spoofed as a Nokia N70 or similar, and then Vodafone Live responds. This can be done by changing registry settings on the Windows Mobile device.

I've heard of people who have managed to stream Vodafone live TV streams this way.

The following is my post from the Whirlpool Australia Forums on getting this going in Australia.

Why did I stop playing with it? Because setting my browser to the Vodafone Live Proxy meant that I had access to the internet, and Vodafone charged exorbitant data charges here whenever my phone connected to the net by itself.

I'm sure Vodafone have a similar proxy in NZ.

Pete :)

Network Wizard...

I have a question about the Network Wizard and Vodafone. The network Wizard configures my phone perfectly for Vodafone, but I used to be able to get Vodafone Live on my old Nokia, but then I couldn't connect to the internet on my old Nokia. If I start Internet Explorer on this phone, how can I bring up the Vodafone Live start screen - Do I have to change to a different network profile or something?

In reply to my previous post, I have this working, and it may be useful for those searching. You have to set the browser proxy to Vodafone live proxy (10.202.2.60:8080 for Australia) and then enter live.vodafone.com as the URL.

It works sweet, and set up an HSDPA (or however it is spelt.) connection to Vodafone Live, even thought I don't have a data plan and I am on Prepay. I see some folks have got Vodafone Live TV streaming to their HTC device by fudging the user agent. I hope to get this going too.

cheers dude,
I tried it, but it didn't work - it defaulted to the nz proxy server, but then I couldn't browse any internet.
Maybe I've done something wrong
